novak's primary source

* emptywheel does novak, again.

* reddhedd on novak:
"The identity of his primary source will come out sooner or later, probably sooner is a good guess, Novak says. [CHS: Does Novak know something is coming down the pike?]"
* jeralyn:
"Bush's non-relenting invocation of the 9/11 attacks have been intended to instill the fear of terrorism in the heart of every American so that they passively accept his Administration's chipping away at our civil liberties, little by little, one by one, until there are precious few if any left, not comprehending that none of these power grabs have made us any safer."

* AP:
"Iran said Sunday that Western incentives to halt its nuclear program were an "acceptable basis" for talks, and it is ready for detailed negotiations.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice responded that Iran should talk directly to negotiators if it wants to discuss the six-nation proposal."
* ron at raw:
"A "steamy spy scandal" at the State Department is brewing as Time Magazine links an operation by US Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte to the case involving Taiwanese agent Isabelle Cheng and Donald W. Keyser, former Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs."

Saw the last half (and unfortunately perhaps not the good parts) of a film on Negroponte called "The Ambassador" that is hard as hell to get shown locally here or on DVD anyplace on the web at Democracy Fest over the weekend. At the end, I asked the guy showing it if the whole Porter Goss ouster was primarily due to the Hookergate mess, or perhaps was more of an engineered plot by Negroponte to get Goss out and someone like Hayden in, which looks to be causing some of the "rifts" in the Republican congressional groups of folks like Hastert and Hoekstra, etc. He agreed with the latter option.

I'm going to try to see if I can get my hands on a copy of that movie. Still would like to see the first part of it!

interesting. perhaps both were involved - ie perhaps Negroponte engineered the Hookergate thing in an attempt to get Hayden implanted.

I'll see if i can get a copy too

I wonder if Negroponte is already "weaving his magic" on Hastert! Check this AP story out on how Hastert just checked out of a hospital after being treated for a skin infection! Hmmm!!!
