self selection or propaganda?

* froomkin has the wrap about bush blocking the OPR/NSA investigation.

* froomkin:
"According to Landis, "The Bush administration has two parallel policies: Bomb terrorists and encourage democracy in the Middle East."

In this case they were mutually exclusive in the short run. But rather than have patience and make some sacrifices -- rather than calling off Israel and calling up Damascus -- the U.S. sacrificed the Lebanese government, its greatest democratic success so far.

Says Landis: "It sends a clear message to every Arab reformer and every Arab politician who's thinking of allying with the United States and going out on a limb in order to push reform. And that message is: Don't count on the United States.""

* froomkin:
"Via Romenesko, a Survey and Research Policy Institute poll finds: "Among those who watch Fox for their news, 59% approve of the job George W. Bush is doing as president and 29% disapprove. But among non-Fox viewers, just 25% approve of the president's performance and 66% disapprove.""
self selection or propaganda?

* froomkin live online:
"Silver Spring, Md.: Dan,

Has there been any indication of Cheney's views on N. Korea/Lebanon? because the administrations actions, so far, seem to be in stark contrast to what Cheney would tend to do.

Dan Froomkin: What a great question! I'm dying to know: Where is Cheney in all this? Has he come around to diplomatic multilateralism? Hard to imagine. Has he just been forced out of the loop? More likely, but still almost inconceivable. Does he have some sort of secret plan? That sounds more like him. But that's just wild speculation on my part."

Totalitarian movements grow because far too many citizens are uninvolved with politics and don’t ask questions. These citizens are the disconnected, silent majority. The key to positive change in America lies not with divisive partisan politics. The key is tapping into the pent-up hopes and dreams of the disaffected, uneducated, and uninformed Americans who don't even bother to vote.

On a positive note, I recently found a very interesting website LearnToQuestion.com. This site is one the way silent majority can learn how to question.

It's Propaganda Lessons section is good complementary reading to OhioDem1's How to Sell a War I’m glad I found this site while Googling "question." It is encouraging to find fellow Americans who are taking positive actions to help wake up America.
