Republicans: LEGALIZE MARIJUANA

* this via rimone:
"The Republican Party has a new voter registration project in Fresno. It involves luring people to sign a LEGALIZE MARIJUANA petition and then re-registering them as Republicans..."

"I find it highly amusing that Michelle Malkin, Anne Coulter, the Red State racists, Sean Hannity and other paragons of reptillian brain wingnuttery are so addicted to their own sense of victimhood and martyrdom that they could not help reaching for the anvil that is Joe Lieberman just as he is circling the drain. It certainly lays waste to the lie that Lieberman is some kind of moderate — these people do not do moderate and they would not be the slightest bit interested in defending him if he did, either.

I have no idea what the result will be on Tuesday — probably a lot closer than my stomach would wish — but as Sirota says today, everything that JoeMentum, the Wingnuts, K-Street, interest groups (hello, NARAL!) stand for is threatened by this race:"

* wolcott:
"Yes, the warbloggers have taken their extra-strength Krauthammer fortitude pills this week, and it's matters nil whether the civilian casualties in Lebanon are innocent victims or Hezbollah crash dummies, for they shall not be moved nor distracted, their eyes shall remain fixed on the horizon, intent on victory."
* kagan:
"(Joe-nertia) is the last honest man, and he may pay the price for it. At least he will be able to sleep at night. And he can take some solace in knowing that history, at least an honest history, will be kinder to him than was his own party."

* amy:
"And finally, the environmental movement may have a new, unexpected convert– Christian televangelist Pat Robertson. In a segment broadcast on his television program “The 700 Club” Thursday, Robertson said "We really need to address the burning of fossil fuels. It is getting hotter, and the icecaps are melting and there is a buildup of carbon dioxide in the air.” As recently as October, Robertson blamed what he called: “far left environmentalists” for saying global warming is caused by human activity. Robertson’s new views may lead to conflicts with fellow Republicans. Just this month, Texas Republican Congressmember Joe Barton was quoted as saying: "I cannot imagine any objective finding that CO2 is a pollutant. If that's true, God is a polluter.""

* nyt:
"Former Police Commissioner Bernard B. Kerik is under federal investigation for possible financial improprieties unrelated to the crimes he pleaded guilty to last month in state court, two law enforcement officials said yesterday"
oh, rudy.

* juan cole on amy:
"On the other hand, because Lebanon was a cosmopolitan country that was highly interlinked with the rest of the world, I think the Israelis have been surprised by the degree to which they have been unable to hide from the world the worst consequences of their bombing raids, and I think the Israelis have not been able to keep the world from knowing what's happening in Lebanon, in a way that they generally do succeed in Gaza and the West Bank.

And by the way, the situation in Gaza, where the Israelis knocked out the major power plant and where they have made repeated incursions, air raids, tank incursions and so forth against Palestinians, which there's been high rates of death of Palestinian civilians, all of this has gone under the radar, because the world is focused on Lebanon, which is a much more accessible story still than the West Bank and Gaza."

The Coultergeist and her coven of fly by night, batwing, nocturnal "thinkers" know if they kiss Joe, he'll never recover. It's their only chance of picking up a Repub seat in CT., they "think".

Grapevine has it that the Fla recount thugs are on their way to CT. It also has the rumor that if Rummy resigns and Lieb loses, he'll replace Rummy. I'll believe that when I see it.
