utter fools as enemies

* billmon:
"More and more, I've come to believe the Dems are insane for even wanting a share of the responsibility for running this out-of-control madhouse of a country. It's like being invited to grab hold of a downed high-voltage power line.
[]
So here's my confession: At this point I really don't give a flying fuck whether the Democrats take the House or the Senate back. No, wait, that's not true. The truth is I hope they don't. It wouldn't save us from what's coming down the road, in the Middle East and elsewhere. It wouldn't force President Psychopath to change course or seek therapy. But it would make sure that the "left" (ha ha ha) gets more than its fair share of blame for the approaching debacle.

That may well be the natural role of the Democratic Party in our one-and-a-half party system, but I don't want any part of it any more. Which means that when I say it's a bad sign (consensus opinion always being wrong) that Charlie Cook now thinks the Republicans are likely to lose their House and/or Senate majorities in November, I just mean that it's a bad sign for the Democratic Party and its professional hangers on.

For the rest of us, and for whatever is left of this country's soul, it doesn't really matter. We've already lost."

"This blatant genocidal bloodlust has become de rigeur on the right now. It's on talk radio, TV and in the columns of respectable newspapers. They don't even pretend to be civilized anymore. Maybe it's just the SOS, but I've got a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I don't ever remember this kind of stuff being openly bandied about like it's normal. And those who did, like Curtis LeMay, didn't have audiences of 25 million listeners to spew their bilge to.

But hey,what do we expect? Once you explode the taboo against torture, can genocide be far behind?
* ew has an interesting post about which global players are using what pressure points to try to manipulate the situation in lebanon. nice quote in the comments:
"If you are an Iranian mullah, what better proof could there be that God is on your side than that He has sent you utter fools as enemies?"

* here's one thing that appears to be completely absent most of the reporting on the qana war crimes:
" Fifteen of the 37 children killed in Qana on Sunday were disabled"
* speaking of which, Glenn:
"It's hard to imagine how we could be more efficiently aiding terrorist recruitment efforts if we tried."

* glenn:
"George Bush's radio address yesterday on the Israel-Lebanon war preaches pure neoconservative gospel. Every point the President made would fit very comfortably into a Bill Kristol Weekly Standard column or a Michael Ledeen Corner item. This speech leaves no doubt that, at least rhetorically, the President is still a full-fledged adherent to the tenets of neoconservatism, and thus considers the Israel-Lebanon war to be "our war" in every sense, merely another front in the Epic Global War of Civilizations (a/k/a The Long War, World War III/IV, etc.)"

i saw that at Scott Horton's and threw it in my post 'the devil went down to qana' on sunday. i'm so disgusted, depressed and demoralised by this shit. i'm sure that if corporate media stressed that so many of the dead children were cripples or otherwise disabled, then the rightwing would be all 'who gives a fuck? they were terrorists anyway.'

rimone hunny - you are mistaken. a disabled child is only .28 of a terrorist. so there were only 4 children killed
