"Bizarro Conservatism, birthed in the firestorm of intellectual radioactivity sparked by 9/11, is the mutant offspring of a philosophy that once meant something quite other than war, torture, and the police state. That Sullivan is coming around to this realization rather late – and with a history of having helped midwife this monster into existence – is cold comfort for those of us who warned of this outcome from the very beginning."antisemite.

"The Senate has made it official: torture is official government policy so long as it meets the strict test of being called something else, said test to be proctored, taken and graded by the President in consultation with . . . the President."

"Maybe we should consider ending the occupation of (Iraq).
No! That would only embolden the enemy by making them think that it’s possible to resist occupation by the United States. That would be terrible."
* a few days ago I asked if anyone could point me to giraldi's article about Iran in AmCon. Scott has it:
THE WHITE HOUSE HAS OVERCOME RESISTANCE FROM THE JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF AND HAS ORDERED PLANS TO ATTACK IRAN AFTER THE NOVEMBER CONGRESSIONAL ELECTIONS. President Bush has made it clear, both publicly and privately, that Iran will not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapons capability and that he intends to take direct action, whatever the consequences would be. It is well understood at the White House that if a naval and air assault is required in lieu of effective international sanctions that modify Iranian behavior there will be severe damage from Iranian retaliation. The US Navy has been tasked with developing contingency plans to keep the Straits of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf open while Air Force planners have been tasked to destroy presumed nuclear sites and to cripple Tehran’s offensive capabilities.

Once again, I don't know what to believe. We now have Larisa, Giraldi, Hersh and a few others saying Bush is determined to make a move about as smart as Adolf Hitler's decision to invade the U.S.S.R. On the other hand, you have people like James Fallows and my mother saying that not even Dubya could be this dense and stupid not to know that he doesn't have the forces to prosecute any war against anyone.
So who should I believe?
Believe what you see, not what people say, and certainly not what Bush says. The plan hasn't changed. Expand the war, keep the war going on forever. Come on, tipping point.
i'm with miguel's mum. she must be right - i demand it!
