feel safer?

* thinkprogress:
"Just now on CNN, Air Force Col. Sam Gardiner (Ret.) said, “We are conducting military operations inside Iran right now. The evidence is overwhelming.”

Gardiner, who taught at the U.S. Army’s National War College, has previously suggested that U.S. forces were already on the ground in Iran. Today he added several additional new points:

1) The House Committee on Emerging Threats recently called on State and Defense Department officials to testify on whether U.S. forces were in Iran. The officials didn’t come to the hearing.

2) “We have learned from Time magazine today that some U.S. naval forces had been alerted for deployment. That is a major step.”

3) “The plan has gone to the White House. That’s not normal planning. When the plan goes to the White House, that means we’ve gone to a different state.”"

c&l has the vid too.

feel safer?

Whatya know, the October surprise. Some surprise. This means the Bush administration thinks the GOP is on the ropes. Ya think? Meanwhile, we're having family crisis time here with the alcoholics. At one point I told them, "some screwed up stuff doesn't make sense," and I thought about all you guys.

It was one of those days. Luke, I see you've been busy! I hope Sibel's story does some good in the world. Heaven knows this business with Iran doesn't.

I did a little reading about the American Revolution. Lord, what passes for education in this country! I could make some points about our experience with oppression, but good literature to reference is lacking. I'll think of something.

i'm glad you made it to the end of the day then :-)

sibel's story is amazing. hopefully the doc will help get it out - altho i'm not sure.

i thuoght of you when i saw the press release:
"Bill Weaver commented: “H.L. Mencken once said that ‘every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats’. This film makes me want to do just that. "

Uranus: I did a little reading about the American Revolution. Lord, what passes for education in this country!

i read this book 'lies my teacher told me' by james w loewen (i think) that really opened up my eyes especially about our history. i was a fucking teacher at the time. that's when i joined 'radical teachers' (dunno if they have a website and too tired and lazy to Google)...this was during the Thong Era, before i had my own machine at home.

Blitzer: (paraphrased) But Bush is pushing a diplomatic solution. Therefore, this talk of military prep work is BULLSHIT! Col. Gardiner are you calling our great leader a liar?

lukery said...

blitzer is such a fukking hack - his performance in that interview was worse than normal

I'm entertaining the theory citizens need to take matters into their own hands. Janet tells me that's silly, that the answer lies in returning to Christ's commandments.

I've been trying to pray all this stuff away for years, and so far it just ain't working.

uranus - pray harder!

been 'entertaining' that shit as well, for nigh on six years now. if not US, then i hope the entire world gives the country a badly-needed intervention ending in Den Haag.

fuckers.

I just read the comments over at Dibgy for Tristero's entry about the October surprise. Those people are genuinely pissed off. It would be so good to turn all that energy into something constructive. Do you folks know much about American history? I studied it all through school and in college, and I learned a little. It seems like I learned more after that, but it must have come from television documentaries because I don't see ready sources online. I think there are great answers to be drawn from history, and I need some people to argue with me. I wanted to write an authoritative essay with at least a few references. But the more I think about it, it comes out better if I pull stuff out of the air (as I mentally compose it) and it could contain factual inaccuracies. One of these hours I'll get started. If you read something I write and you know it's wrong, please speak up.

uranus - my american history is terrible.

i thought the commentors at digby's place were mostly just resigned to something horrible happening.

haven't read my staples like digby, billmon and maha &c &c since last week. but many times before, i got the idea that not only are these people VERY pissed off, they'd be wanting to storm the streets. but they're way too mature/serious to actually rally the troops to possible violent mobs and anyway, i kinda get the idea that a few of them think they'll eventually get paying gigs out of their writing.

i never held such illusions which is why i'll say anything i want on my site. well, apart from /what i'd really like to do/ cause there are laws against that; i think one of them's in the 'conspiracy to..' category.

ps to Uranus: i failed to pass history in HS (boring teachers, just names and dates) and so got a 'general' instead of an 'academic' diploma. i turned that shit down and ended up at Uni anyway.

never was interested in history before the last ten years when i noticed that, what i thought, since the 70s, was a tiny lunatic fringe in the midwest was actually the 'vast rightwing conspiracy'. when i first heard that shit outta Hillary, i almost pisssed myself laughing.

i don't laugh anymore.

yeah - i was referring to the comments at digby's place.

I dont read maha as often as i'd like ;-(

me too - although it's not so much about a writing gig - I don't think ANYONE would employ me for ANYTHING after blogging.

I have a dystopic vision of the future where 80% of all the unemployed will be ex-bloggers.

That's cool. That makes it easy! I actually have only one or two points to make, but it's necessary to have a rather long historical perspective. I didn't feel like making a major investment of time to prepare an authoritative treatise for the sake of pointing out something Bush/Cheney/Rove are hoping nobody will say. That's tough titty for them. A brief visit with some history resources reminded me how poorly equipped we are, and why the Bush administration has been able to get away with such egregious destruction of our constitutional guarantees. I think I can make learning it a little more fun and simple; at least, I'll give it a go.

yeah, the intelligent and caring among us will be outta work. but i'll NEVER quit my site (unless technical difficulties stand in the way).

hey, i should get one of those little signs they used to use in the States whenever anything fucked up happened. i prefer the ones they use on the Simpsons though, when Kent Brockman says something stupid or drunk and they show this little stick figure w/like curlicues coming out of their head. i think it says 'please stand by...technical difficulties.'

now all i have to do is get someone to write the damn script so it appears instead of a 404 or whatever.
