the imminent apocalypse

* krauthammer via glenn:
"The signal is unmistakable. An aerial attack on Iran's nuclear facilities lies just beyond the horizon of diplomacy. With the crisis advancing and the moment of truth approaching, it is important to begin looking now with unflinching honesty at the military option... The decision is no more than a year away."
* Glenn:
"We really are now a country run by people who, in order to justify more wars against countries which have not attacked us, will simply invent wholesale fiction about the countries they want to attack, and then smear as a Terrorist-ally anyone or anything (such as the IAEA) which points out that the claims are false. The debacle in Iraq has not deterred them in the slightest. Deceiving this country into new wars is now just standard operating procedure for them.

* froomkin:
"An e-mail from Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman:
"Everything is on the line.
"It's more than just the House, the Senate, and 36 governorships. It's whether the president's efforts to keep Americans safe will grind to a halt with Democrats in control of funding every aspect of the War on Terror . . . whether Democrats will be allowed to carry out their threat to raise your taxes by $2.4 trillion . . . whether Democrats will get their wish of investigating -- and maybe even impeaching -- our president.""
they still think the impeachment threat is good work for them.

* krauthammer:
"Then there is the larger danger of permitting nuclear weapons to be acquired by religious fanatics seized with an eschatological belief in the imminent apocalypse and in their own divine duty to hasten the End of Days."
funny.

Krauthammer probably thinks irony is what his clothes with the too-sharp creases and pleats are like when they return from the cleaners...

ironing is dead

We are doomed. Losing their iron claw hold on anything is more urgent to the GOP than avoiding global obliteration. And if the preponderance of the world is as brainless as Krauthammer, maybe it's for the best.

The lack of accountability is due in part to the successful conflation of Bush with:

1) the nation.

2) the soldiers.

3) protecting America from evildoers.

How much $$$ has been spent propagating this meme/frame? Hundreds of millions? Billions?

So I would argue Mehlman is making a psychological appeal, not a political appeal.

including the Iraq war, we're up to $1-2 trillion

Uranus - you are right, they'll do ANYTHING to hang on to power.

It feels a bit weird to read about imminent military clash against Iran while Javier Solana (Foreign Minister of EU) says real and significant progress is being made on Iran-EU talks ("We are really making progress. Never before have we had the level of engagement, and a level of discussion of issues which are difficult.") I wonder what the EU view looks like after Blair is out.

But there's one thing on which I fully agree with Krauthammer:

"Then there is the larger danger of permitting nuclear weapons to be acquired by religious fanatics seized with an eschatological belief in the imminent apocalypse and in their own divine duty to hasten the End of Days."

I wonder if he realizes how right he is...

obviously not. no sense of ironing.

A perfect example of a gigantic problem we have in this country:

1. There are good guys and bad guys.

2. We have to kill the bad guys.

3. We're never the bad guys (democrats excepted).

No, he doesn't see the irony in it. Likewise, people who actually voted for George Bush figure it doesn't matter who has their finger on the button.

No kidding!

What's up with that, anyway?! . . . do they actually believe that radioactive fallout would not hit them with intensity equal to that on their targets and their Democratic neighbors? This is an intelligence test, people! You're flunking!!! Helloooo!
