indictments for Duncan Hunter ?

from calipendence, via email:
Interesting news on Duncan Hunter front as I noted earlier on your blog. John Rinaldi, who's running against him publicly stated that he expects indictments for Hunter later in an interview on KLSD morning show on Sunday. It was actually some gay issues show I think, and I think of relevance was that he is a gay man himself. It was weird that he didn't really communicate this much if at all before the June primary when he got the nomination, but now has it out there. That has many of us concerned that he likely won't be able to beat Hunter for this reason alone, if it gets too well known amongst voters. Better to make the vote in November to be "against" Hunter strongly, then people having a studied vote "for" Rinaldi for this reason I think.

Anyway, on Duncan Hunter, a new story that one reason that the defense bill was held up is that he insisted on putting some requirement by the military that military chaplains, regardless of their faith say a prayer in the name of Jesus during nondenominational settings, which wasn't in the Senate Bill. Church and state are united in his mind! :)

Rinaldi also noted that Hunter's election web site has been down for some time now (weeks, months?) and doesn't have anything on it, and wonders if this might be related to an impending indictment, or if he doesn't want to deal with his weaknesses for representing local interests/concerns here, or what...

A few other news links that might be of interest to you:

1) Pakistan and nukes

2) Outsourcing the CIA (can't remember if you had this on your blog earlier...)

3) Interesting comments from Harris trying to dismiss the effect of Hookergate investigations...
When asked about the campaign contribution scandal involving Congressman Duke Cunningham and the fact that she was questioned in the case by the U.S. Justice Department, Harris said the people of Florida weren't interested in such matters.

"They said I'm not a target," Harris told O'Donnell, referring to the Justice Department. "So we have moved on."
4) Virgil Goode's opponent got called out for calling someone who plea-bargained his involvement in MZM down to a misdemeanor as a "felon". Sounds like they are "parsing words" to keep the attention off of them in this...

5) Harris trying to explain away contributions from Bob Ney too...

Got through dubbing the rest of Amerika. It's hard I think for America to get passion against an inner takeover of this country as much as it would someone external like the Soviet Union, but still some of the same principles apply. Kristofferson's character also at the end notes that fear is the big factor to overcome too, just like V for Vendetta did. That I think is our big challenge to overcome this coming year. The climate of fear, that is nurtured by these criminal scumbags!
thnx Calipendence.

well said, calipendence. right now i'm thinking of High Chancellor (the John Heard character) freaking out on those huge TVs to his staff, going 'they have to remember WHY they need us' (which i immediately and every time i watched it, heard as 'WHY they need US.'

I just ordered my Grand Heritage V for Vendetta costume for around $125 total shipped. It lists for $180 and most other places you can't get it for less than $160 plus tax and shipping charges. The place I bought it from is still nebulous on how well they are stocked or if they got my order out just yet. Once I get confirmed that it's shipping to me, I'll post a link so that everyone else can pound them for the same deal and hopefully we can get them to ramp up their orders soon so that everyone else can get a good deal on costumes before the "time of reckoning" at the end of October and early November! The regular costume (not Grand Heritage) should be around $54 shipped from the same place. I think to get free shipping, you need to order it by tomorrow. Not sure about international customers though. An avatar for your pleasure that I use on boards like DU...
