i'm sitting here weeping again, after watching the mash-up (not drunk/stoned either).
btw, i watched V for Vendetta like 10x already, still haven't returned it to amazon rental--it just gets better and better and more connected to what's going on/still happening in the States.
i saw v for vendetta the first time just last july on a flight from san fran to london... i had heard about it but wasn't prepared for its impact... somebody was definitely sending a message via that movie...
i haven't given it back yet, luke. got an extra million bucks for airfare?
i'm watching it again tonight--just fantastic. the thing of it is, Alan Moore, who first wrote the (so-called comic) books back in the 80s, was so strangely prescient. just as w/that film From Hell(his years-long research into Jack the Ripper from which books they made that film), he distanced himself from V and had his name removed from the credits.
i love Alan Moore and his integrity. at age 50, he quit most of his writing to become a magician. he's up near the Manchester area...i'm so dying to meet him.
for the same reason he quit DC comics way back when--his integrity.
'From Hell' not only starred Johnny Depp and Heather Graham (Americans playing Brits, for fuck's sake) but they veered off from Moore's research and story, all factually backed up w/tons of footnotes and citations (made into a very long book of their own; not a comicbook).
the only issue i have w/V for Vendetta is that even though i love her, Natalie Portman's playing a Brit. i believe AM denounced the film and distanced himself from it cause they changed the books' ending and basically toned it down. i love the film but i love Moore's original books better.
