i'd LOVE to see the death of the president.

* HBO:
"The Journalist and The Jihadi: The Murder of Daniel Pearl

Daniel Pearl and Omar Sheikh were both highly educated individuals from privileged backgrounds who saw the world very differently. Pearl was a humanist who became an accomplished journalist and spent most of his career reporting from the Muslim world as part of a quest to promote cross-cultural understanding. Sheikh was radicalized by events that he regarded as the global persecution of Muslims, and became an Islamic militant who chose a deeply violent method to achieve what he believed in. After 9/11, their paths crossed in Pakistan, with tragic consequences. Premieres Tuesday, October 10"

* emptywheel:
"And now I have to contemplate flying home just east of a newly nuclear North Korea. It worries me a bit, sure (though I'm in SE Asia, far from any fall out, real or political). But mostly it makes me weary and sad that our failed leader continues to have such a tangibly negative effect on the world.
[]
It is as if Bush, as much as third-rate dictators like Kim Jong-Il, cares only about face, and not about real results. He. Can't. Just. Let. Diplomacy. Work. Because if it did, it'd undermine the Cheney doctrine, our claim to be the global bully, this presumption that the country that has itself mired in Iraq inspires fear around the world.

And the results are dire.

I'm just sick, contemplating the damage this President will do to the world in the remaining two years of his reign."
* newsweek:
"Democrats now outdistance Republicans on every single issue that could decide voters’ choices come Nov. 7. In addition to winning—for the first time in the NEWSWEEK poll—on the question of which party is more trusted to fight the war on terror (44 to 37 percent) and moral values (42 percent to 36 percent), the Democrats now inspire more trust than the GOP on handling Iraq (47 to 34); the economy (53 to 31); health care (57 to 24); federal spending and the deficit (53 to 29); gas and oil prices (56 to 23); and immigration (43 to 34)."

* christy:
"With the elections fast approaching in November (31 days and counting…), and the Republican party facing a full on karmageddon in the news cycles"
* drum:
" It's arguable whether the Iraq experiment could have worked under any circumstances, but it's undeniable that after three years of miscues there simply aren't any credible options left. You can't criticize Democrats for being unable to solve a problem that's no longer solvable."

* comment from Digby's place:
" i'd LOVE to see the death of the president.

and that movie looks good, too!"
look to rimone for a film review in about12 hours.

two comments... first, n. korea doesn't have any significant oil resources, so, fuck 'em, i say... :) second, the headline of your post is a thought that has never been far from my mind for going on six years now... ;)

Prof - re the headline, i was just quotin' someone else, talking about a movie! it'd be illegal otherwise ;-)

in many ways, i wish he was sufficiently powerful that his death would be a force for good. unfortunately, i think murdering him would make things even worse . catch 22.

For a minute or so, I'd thought I'd found a gold mine where I could get this film on DVD, but before you all jump on board and buy it (a it's steep price of $69.95, note that this isn't the same film and is a film about the Kennedy assassination made in 1992, not in 2006. Still would love to find a way of seeing this film!

Yeah, I agree. It makes me sick that Bush got into office without even being elected, he just forced himself in. I think of his views on issues and they couldn't be any different to mine. He is a conservative, anti gay, pro life, pro military, anti tax. He attaked Iraq and Afghanistan and look at those countries now and he left New orleans to rot in hell. I can't wait until he leaves office. By the way, at the moment watching Death of a presiddent and I haven't seen anythin kile it before. Robert Wooller

The earlier anonymous posting was actually me.. Found an interesting bit of trivia on this flick... It won the Fipresci Prize at the Toronto Film Festival earlier. Given our obsession with things Turkish here, guess who's one of the jurors that voted them this award!...

Klaus Eder, FIPRESCI - Germany - Jury President
Géza Csákvári, Nepszabadsag - Hungary
Esin Kücüktepepinar, Sabah - Turkey
Oscar Peyrou, Agencia EFE
Norman Wilner, Metro Toronto - Canada

I guess no 'Mercans on it! Now we know why it has won according to freeperdom! :)
