yay, australia

Australia is third.

it's not very often i say 'yay, australia' without being snarky - but today i say 'yay, australia' without being snarky. (and a big shout-out to all those countries north of Sth Korea on the list)

courtesy bob harris who says:
"There's actually a great deal of good news here. For one, in not one country on earth was acceptance of torture the majority position. Even people in active war zones don't seem to lose their bearings that badly. And here in the U.S., even after 9/11 and the steady drumbeat of pro-torture crap from the lunatic right, Americans still oppose torture by a wide margin, roughly near the global average."
I'm not quite sure i'd be gloating that america is near the average, but what do i know?

so we're below the average. somehow i knew that.

i'm waiting for them to just come right out w/it and change the spelling to 'amerika.' then again, i'm sure nobody currently in power has a fucking clue about who Franz Kafka is.

i'm also waiting for the news reports about kids who were busted for playing torture 'games' at the playgrounds in school...

Naturally, I'm proud of Italy, topping the list. Often the italian Army is ridiculed and considered cowardly because they don't relish bloodshed. I thinks its humanity, not cowardice.

Combine this with the fact their gov't has the good sense to step down, the minute they lose the consensus, and you get a pretty cool place to live.

FTR, on hold while I plan a job jump... and thank you for the "young man"... methinks I've got a year on you, but I'll take the compliments where I can get them! :P

oldschool - right. the US is only 'average' if you include a lot of 2nd wo rld countries. that is, it's at the bottom of the first world. nice.
