I'm not hanging out at any blogs today, my friend. I'm cooking dinner for my kids and waiting for the other shoe to drop. Or shoes, I guess I should say. Four hundred and sixty eight of them, in fact, at the federal level, and more on lower levels.

I'm not expecting anything except hassles and fraud and grief. How about you?

lukery said...

ah yes - much grief expected.

tell the kids 'hi' from australia!

'm dying for some election results, exit polls, something... argentina, now that daylight saving time has gone away, is two hours ahead of u.s. east coast time, which means that poll-closing time of 9 p.m. on the east coast is 11 p.m. here, and 9 p.m. on the west coast is 2 a.m. here... i'm an early-to-bed guy, so i KNOW i'm not going to last until the final tallies are in... i'll be lucky to last until the FIRST tallies are in... but, lukery, you're still in morning coffee time... hang in there...

lukery said...

Prof - we'll keep an eye on things for you.

I was up at 4am to get up to speed with the events of the day. nearly 10am here now - so i'll be able to watch everything unfold :-)

Superteemu said...

Quit complaining, mr. professor. :) It's 1 a.m. here, and I should be at work in the morning. Sure, I can listen to final(?) results on my way to the office, but... I should be getting some sleep NOW? I can't! :(

lukery said...

teemu - hows your computer?

what time do you start work?

Miguel said...

Prof Marcus, we don't disappoint:
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/11/07/senate-exit-polls-early/

I hope this means something good, but there's no way to know until we see some real returns.

Superteemu said...

It's still on the operating table, stable, and I keep her unconscious for a while still to avoid causing more damage.

Work starts in six hours. Most annoyingly, I can't pop that champagne bottle open when they start confirming the results. I just hope that Dems dont hurry to somehow botch the victory during (my) day, so I can open it tomorrow evening...

lukery said...

there's a different set here

lukery said...

thnx miguel

Teemu - how about a beer or a vodka - just for fun. no need to open the whole bottle of champagne...

lukery said...

T - that's such a bummer about your computer. good to see yuo have a backup at least.

Anonymous said...

Yo, ProfMarcus! The polls closed 25 minutes ago at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (in GMT -5). Still awake? Here on the Left Coast, we have another three hours to go.

lukery said...

LeeB!

how was your day?

You didn't drown apparently - yay.

Anonymous said...

Menendez projected winner for NJ Senate

Anonymous said...

No, I didn't drown. I'm up high enough that even if the lake overflows its banks (it hasn't), I stay dry. There are some polling places that were closed because of flooding and the election officials, it was announced, have gone to the back-up plan for accommodating voters. Such awful timing. But the good news is 90% of Washington State is voting by mail (like me). The balance will be absentee in another year.

PA-Sen - Casey is projected winner.
OH-Sen - Brown defeating DeWine.
W-VA-Sen - Robert Byrd re-elected.
FL-Sen - Nelson. (BooHoo Harris, BooHoo)

Now they're fuzzing up the works with some areas staying open later because of early morning shennagins. Grrr. The vote suppression gang must be simply exhausted!

lukery said...

phew - i was worried that maybe we'd next see you with some flippers.

Anonymous said...

HA! :-)

lukery said...

leeb - are you nervous over there?

Anonymous said...

Numb. I think the correct term is "numb."

The number of reports of voter suppression is infuriating. I like that the mood is good around the counting, and they are calling races for the Dems, but there is still the end game lurking.

Numb.

Workin' on the Chablis . . .

lukery said...

move your fridge near your computer :-)

lukery said...

LeeB - don't forget to breathe in both directions

Don said...

Weird moment: a couple of minutes ago, the CNN Senate page was showing GOP -2, Dem +2 and Ind +1 (Holy Joe). Now it's showing GOP -3, Dem +3, no change on Ind. Lieberman no longer the projected winner?

Anonymous said...

Oh, dang! I knew I was forgetting something . . . . ;-)

lukery said...

don - i havent heard that anywhere else.

Anonymous said...

Don, that chart must be behind. I don't know what the story is on Holy Joe, but the Indie Senator should be Bernie Sanders. That one was called first about two hours ago.

Don said...

So if that's the case, what's up with Joe?

Just watched the CTV national news. I think I swore loudly at least 6 times during the 'report' from their DC correspondent, Tom Clark. The first I saw of him was his report on how Harry Whittington (paraphrasing) was doing the "American Thing" and apologizing for the distress he'd caused Deadeye Dick by getting in the way of the lead spray. Next, an interview with Shrub comparable to Halperin with Hume. His commentary tonight on the midterms could've been shown on Faux News, emphasizing how G-Dub'll be sorely distracted by having to deal with a hostile legislative branch instead of concentrating on international relations.

Ok, I'll admit I laughed at that last point...

Bad enough the soft-right-leaning Global (from the same owners as the National Post, publisher of that wonderful Amir Taheri piece on Iranian clothing badges) has been painting the midterms in GOP friendly terms... While CTV is corporate, they're less compromised than comparable US counterparts. Still, I'd swear this miserable hack's auditioning for Rupert's benefit.

It's frustrating how at least 2 of the national stations here are making such a big deal of what effect a Dem House might have on US-Canada relations, as if there'd never been a party-split government in the US.

lukery said...

Lamont has conceded.

that's kinda weird about .ca TV. hows the .ca beer going?

Don said...

hows the .ca beer going?

Wonderfully of course... what kinda question is that to ask a Canadian?! ;)

Don said...

Hey, just checked the numbers at C&L. Looks like Curtastrophe's getting a pink slip and Crazy Ricky's conceded. This is looking better by the minute! :D

lol - that's awesome!

i meant to post a 'i miss dan' post.

how has TDS been 2nite?

Don said...

Hilarious! The graphics for called races are a helluva lot more entertaining than you'd find on MSM reports. DL the episode if you get the chance; they're too good to tell, ya gotta see them.

Side note: the audience when nuts when Santorum went down.

lukery said...

i'm bummed that i missed it - i've had to watch brithume and bill bennett instead!

lukery said...

btw - yay us!

Superteemu said...

Boohoo. I was content with early reports of repubs likely keeping senate - now, chances of everyone having a nervous breakdown again went up to 98% in tradesports. :(

lukery said...

teemu - lol - gmorning my friend

may your day be sunny & happy

Anonymous said...

Well, this is looking good. The Dems have the House. Exact number of seats uncertain, but MSNBC currently projects it as +33. We don't yet know about my district - last time I checked, just 33% of precincts were reporting (flood? absentee ballots?) Darcy Burner (D-Smart Woman!) was trailing Dave Reichert (R-bu$h Brown Nose) by 52% to 48%. Anyway, too close to call . . . yet, IMNHO.

MSNBC is also reporting that a handful of recounts are expected in the House side of this, but whatever that is or however it turns out, it won't affect the control.

The Dems may also have taken the Senate. At this moment, it is tied, but two seats are nearly a done deal.

Pennsylvania - Casey. (Buh-bye, Ricky!)
Ohio - Brown. (anybody gonna miss DeWhine?)
Rhode Island - Whitehouse (Chaffee gone)
Missouri - McCaskill (Talent conceded)
Montana - Looks like it may be Tester. Still holding my breath.
Virginia - Webb has claimed victory (when he was up just 2700+ votes; now he's up over 7,000 and the remaining precincts yet to be counted have the Dems confident his margin will be even higher)

This is DEFINITELY looking to be sunny and happy.

I think we better tell Rimone that it's safe to poke her head in . . . ;-)

lukery said...

good morning rimone!

i bet you never dreamed of this!

lukery said...

leeb - amazing

never in my wildest dreams

Just got bqck from a day of exit poll duty and celebrations afterward. Some of our races may need to wait to have the votes fully counted, since Mikel Haas and local courts here wouldn't force them to count non-provisional paper ballots today here in San Diego. Though it's not likely to change local races here.

And it's damn good now to see Debra Bowen surging ahead as secretary of state! That's because, if and when we have special elections to fill Bilbray's and Duncan Hunter's seats, and perhaps even a recall election of Ahnuld if we learn from the GOP's strategy on Davis, we'll have a secretary of state now that won't let folks like Mikel Haas play any more games that he's been playing!

And damn, I feel young again now that the university I graduated from in Iowa City finally got rid of it's Republican congress critter after 30 years there. He was a moderate, but Iowa City deserved better, and finally got it in Loebsack! Maybe instead of moving to Oregon, I'll move back there now to get away from redneck San Diego.

thanks to Have Skunk and LeeB, i got to write the post i've been dying to write for ages:

There are still few thousand votes coming in from Montana, most (I think) from Yellowstone county.

In here are some unofficial results.

On that page now, among other things:

RUN DATE:11/08/06 03:37 AM
PRECINCTS COUNTED (OF 69) ......0
REGISTERED VOTERS - TOTAL ......0
BALLOTS CAST - TOTAL.......30,569
CONRAD BURNS (REP).........15,347
STAN JONES (LIB)..............702
JON TESTER (DEM)...........14,212
WRITE-IN..... .................88

However, a while ago it read:

RUN DATE:11/07/06 10:39 PM
PRECINCTS COUNTED (OF 69)......69
REGISTERED VOTERS - TOTAL..92,179
BALLOTS CAST - TOTAL.......36,228
CONRAD BURNS (REP).........16,888
STAN JONES (LIB)..............811
JON TESTER (DEM)...........18,161
WRITE-IN..... .................96

Was that latter a hasty first count, test data(?) or what? I guess Tester's getting a sweet share of the remaining precincts. And if he isn't, well, someone should take a peek at this. I hope there'll be no reason for that, though.

Superteemu said...

Ok, never mind then. VoteTrustUSA says:

[..] In Yellowstone County, local officials failed to clear the totals on the county's ES&S M-650 central count tabulator before counting the ballots and were running a new count.

What a bloodbath. I didn't think it was possible. I feel funny, kind of like when it rains, which here is practically never. Could it be that what I'm experiencing is hope? Wow, what a concept.

I'm trying to make myself happy about the gains, but bummed about Lamont, a real lost opportunity, and bummed about Pelosi buying into Rove's bullshit about impeachmenbt being "getting even". It is not. It is about justice. How Dems expect Americans to continue to respect the rule of law when the biggest criminals don't get punished amazes me. If Dems let those bastards get away with this, they'll have to win next time without me. It is extremely naive for Dems to expect the NeoNutzis to be bipartisan. It takes two to tango, Nancy, and the NeoNutzis only want to slam dance. Promising not to impeach is setting yourself up to be made a laughinstock. Sure Dopey will sound like he'll do what you want, to keep you from cooking his sorry ass, but he'll drag his veto pen out everytime, only it'll be too late. The only language GOPers understand is self interest, so the ONLY way you'll get him to do anything is to threaten his chickshit ass. But you just don't get it. You'll make nice with a mass murderer just not to look vengeful. Stooooopid.

I just woke up and boy do I have a hangover! ; )

I am so proud of my country today - I feel so God damn patriotic!

I got a very nice surprise yesterday. My mother (who never voted in her life until the 2004 election) volunteered with me to do phone banking to get out the vote. And she also gave a neighbor a ride to the polls to vote. I am so freaking proud of her! Yeah mom!

Kathleen, i'm hoping Pelosi was only bullshitting and if not, that now she can be convinced to do the right thing.

Uranus: What a bloodbath. I didn't think it was possible. I feel funny, kind of like when it rains, which here is practically never. Could it be that what I'm experiencing is hope? Wow, what a concept.

yes, HOPE! btw, i uploaded Crystal Method's Bloodbath Dance in my first post this morning, just to celebrate better.

Rimone; Of one of my impeachment dreams is right, that's exactly what she will do, but I figure it's not a moment too soon to get on her ass about it.

Anonymous said...

i loooove you Kathleen, wish i could work w/you there. :-)

i'm soooo hoping for impeachment, leg-irons, them being dragged out on worldwide TV, the works. and yeah, i wanna see 'em cryin' real fuckin' tears, lol. :-)

Anonymous said...

Rimone; Yeah, and then some. How 'bout a little dunk in some water, it's not torture and it might have a cleansing effect, but nothing can wash that stuff clean.

Anonymous said...

oh yes, definitely the water-boarding, sorry, 'dunking'.
