NYT about election theft. grrrr.

* AP:
Dick Cheney will spend Election Day on his first hunting trip since he accidentally shot a companion last February while aiming at a covey of quail on a private Texas ranch.

The vice president, after working at the White House on Monday morning, will head to South Dakota to spend several days at a private hunting lodge near Pierre. Lea Anne McBride, his press secretary, said it was an annual hunting outing and said Cheney spent Election Day in 2002 at the same lodge.
I suspect emptywheel would love to see the guestlist.

"Hastert May Face Post-Election Unrest
Foley Scandal Just One of Speaker's Problems
House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert's future is in doubt even if the Republicans retain control of the House because of unease among GOP lawmakers about his handling of the Foley page scandal and what a House ethics committee investigation might conclude about him, according to several Republican aides.

House Chief Deputy Whip Eric I. Cantor (R-Va.) said last week that the House Republican leadership elections scheduled for Nov. 15 should be postponed until the ethics committee delivers its final report.
[]
In early 2004, as House Appropriations Committee investigators prepared to launch a sensitive audit of highly classified Capitol Hill security upgrades, Hastert's chief counsel made a surprise visit to the first meeting of the auditors.

His message was clear, according to participants: The speaker's office was not happy about the probe and would keep investigators on a tight leash. In September 2005, despite growing evidence of sweetheart deals, kickbacks, wasteful contracts and shoddy work, the probe was suddenly shut down.
[]
The turmoil has been mounting with Hastert largely off the stage. The speaker had expected to maintain a vigorous campaign schedule, but since the Foley scandal erupted, the former high school wrestling coach has kept largely out of sight. Boehner said that while Hastert has not granted many interviews, he made campaign appearances last week in Texas, Arizona and Florida. His Democratic opponent, a little-known challenger named John Laesch, has tried to capitalize on the swirling controversies. On Friday, Laesch posted a Web site, www.therealdenny.com , to raise questions about Hastert's leadership."
wow - that's cool that they are pointing to Laesch's website.

* after my love-letter to the NY the other day about election theft, Adam Cohen, editorial writer for The New York Times, was on DemocracyNow 'to discuss voter disenfranchisement' - he sounds like Fritakis and Brad - angry and informed - but we've hardly seen anything in the NYT about election theft. grrrr. Cohen is on the editorial board - his bio here. Will the NYT write about the robo-calls tomorrow?

The polls in CT showing Lamont trailing by 12 points were completed before the NYT endorsement, so it could be that it is tightening. Also when the polls showed Lamont trailing by 17 points, the turnout at the debate made me question those numbers, but the lack of campaign expertise, in my opinion, of Lamont's staff left a great deal to be desired. As Luke knows, I have been expressing concern ever since I returned to CT. in June, to no avail. They might just quietly pull it off though, I'm praying and wishing because I sure as hell want the Dems to have subpoena power and an Independant regradless of where he caucuses won't do jack shit for the Dems.

The Robo-calls were intense in 2nd CD in CT, Rob Simmons district. Repugs only know how to cheat. They can't win fair and square.
