a sharp rebuke of President Bush

omfg: wapoA1:
"The political pendulum in American politics swung away from the right yesterday, putting an end to the 12-year Republican Revolution on Capitol Hill and delivering a sharp rebuke of President Bush and the Iraq war."

The Democratic House

There was only one explanation for the crazy-quilt combination of victories around the country that gave the Democrats control of the House of Representatives last night: an angry shout of repudiation of the Bush White House and the abysmal way the Republican majority has run Congress.

let's hope it's way more than a repudiation... i want indictments and convictions...

The best may be yet to come marcus. Emporer Boy is naked, he doesn't have Congress to speak for him. That means he will have to sell his product at more media conferences and interviews. The wisdom of the American people in choosing the alternative will be confirmed every time he opens his mouth. The Dems can and should call him on every signing statement ("it's our way, or the highway") and they should filibuster and reject every unsavoury bill he tries to rush through the old Congress. The fickle media is smelling the wind, Bush's flaws can no longer be denied. He may implode. Impeachment consensus could emerge. Indictments and convictions?... you bettcha!

Jason Leopold: "In an interview Sunday with ABC News, Vice President Dick Cheney said he would ignore any subpoenas he received by Democrats if they gained control of Congress." We'll see about that.

A large part of the reason there has been such grievous lawbreaking by the Bush administration is that the Reagan and Bush, Sr. administrations weren't held to account for their crimes. For wishing to reach across the aisle and put this trouble behind, Clinton was rewarded with impeachment. On top of all the other dirty work to be done, achieving a better level of compliance with the law from the people who gave us war and the evisceration of constitutional rights is another unpleasant priority. The "conservative agenda" in the United States is more than due a sound thrashing; the survival of humanity depends on it.
