According to Professor Chomsky, Paul Henze, former CIA Ankara station chief, was behind the "Bulgarian Connection," along with some alleged terrorism "expert," Claire Sterling. Paul Henze was involved with the 1980 military coup. Professor Chomsky has a section of Manufacturing Consent which is devoted to the "Bulgarian Connection."
Recently, documents purporting to support the "Bulgarian Connection" were said to have been found in old Stasi files, but it looks like this might be more propaganda. See Deutsche Welle.
