a whole bunch of hard drugs

* digby:
"You know, I hate to be suspicious of such things, but it seems as if every time we get into one of these boondoggle wars, a whole bunch of hard drugs find their way back to America. I can't say for sure that it's not a coincidence, but you really do have to wonder why it is that when anybody implies that the government might just be involved, they are hounded and discredited."

"Sorry America, there is no Santa Claus, at least not in the form of Robert Gates. We may have thought the humble, open-minded outsider was going to blow in to sweep away the old. Instead he is shaping up to be flaccid yes man, one who can't even get his timing right."

* weldon has a nice post about depression. random para:
"Of course lots of people make bad decisions without benefit of depression, and I’m skilled at doing so even when the illness is under control. But one of the corollaries of depression is that you know enough to know that you tend to make bad decisions, and it carries over into those periods when you’re not significantly depressed; you can, and I did and do, end up questioning virtually every decision of whatever significance. It amounts to a paralysis of will, where it seems safer simply not to decide and deal with the consequences later even though you know on some level that the consequences of failing to decide will probably be worse than the consequences of all but the worst decisions. You’re just too stupid and too scared to act on what you know."

"Thanks to the VRWC, all the average person knows about other nations' health care systems is that there are waiting lines in Canada. "

It's good to know the U.S. isn't the only country keeping them devil potheads on the run: Australia's Prime Minister John Howard wants to ban bongs.

Heh, my county tried to make electric blenders illegal years ago after learning some people liked to use them to grind up marijuana. The crusade was doomed from the start, as no one could keep a straight face when police tried to figure out who to arrest at stores like Dillards and Pennys.

That came from the stopthedrugwar.org website. I consider the site's material authoritative. Their archive is global, and enormous. It draws from local media and staff writing, and I can suggest or recommend you search stopthedrugwar.org when seeking drug information about drug people and drug events.
