off the table

* PCR:
"Yet the Democrats have taken impeachment "off the table." Many Democrats and Republicans and a great many Christians can contemplate illegal military aggression against Iran, but not the impeachment of the greatest criminal administration in US history. Far from being scandalized by what the entire world views as an unjust invasion and occupation of Iraq by the US, leading Democratic and Republican candidates for the 2008 presidential nomination rushed to inform the Israel Lobby, AIPAC, that they, if elected, will keep US troops in Iraq.

Our elected representatives, if not the American people, now regard as normal such heinous actions as war crimes, the rape of the Constitution, self-serving use of government office, and the constant stream of lies and propaganda from the highest offices of the executive branch.

Perhaps that is what disillusioned foreigners, who once looked with hope to America, mean when they say that America does not exist anymore.

If the notion has departed that the highest political offices in the land are supposed to be occupied by people who are honest and faithful to their oath to the Constitution, then we are far advanced on the road to tyranny."

I've scratched my head bloody trying to understand how this could be. It is not just sad. It is a puzzlement.

One might think that the Congress, politicians in general, and the "American people" who do not seem to care actually believe these things that come out of the Administration's mouthpieces. They have an understanding quite different from Robert's about what the facts are in this world.

One can imagine that they believe just what they tell us, that we are faced with a terrifying threat of moslem flesh-eating zombies out to kill us for our freedoms. It would take some such crisis to justify to them the minor inconvenience of postponing "civil liberties" while this threat is taken care of. No one wants to see "civil liberties" trampled on, but to them, I suspect, it is a sacrifice one needs to make in order to root out and destroy the flesh eating zombies out to eat us up.

This is one story. I also wonder whether these people have some deep insecurity that whatever they believe about the world is real. Yes, they are told that we are under attack and that there are zombies out there. But, most Americans don't see these zombies. They don't know or have ever cared about "zombie" families or "zombie" culture.. Maybe the zombies are out for us, maybe they aren't. So, without any real facts or feelings one way or the other, they go along with what they are told by "respected" people who should know. Most people rely on their President, the military, real-men like officials. They tend to doubt whatever less credible sources might say.

People don't just doubt what their senses tell them. In the case of our war on zombies, their senses tell them very little. In their position, they rely on authority.

Roberts complains that these people must no longer care about whether our leaders are truthful and honest. He thinks that if only politicians and the American people cared about the quality of their leaders, and they saw the facts as Roberts sees them, then we would have impeachments aplenty.

However, the politicians and people that Roberts wonders about believe that Bush and his administration are honest and brave against not only the waves of zombie hordes, but the traitors like Roberts in our midst who would have us ignore them.

If people are unwilling to see the facts of the world as Roberts sees them, so that they could challenge the Bush story that there are zombies out to get us, then they are also unable to question the character of Bush, et al, who acts in accordance with the understanding that there are these zombies.

All Roberts has said to us is that the other side, the politicians and the American people who run things at the moment, don't understand and are being lead by crooks. If only they would open their eyes!!!...He has been again speaking only to us, who somehow agree with him, and not to them, who don't.
