getting "traction" at dkos has little to do with the value of the information and a lot more to do with marketing... there's still a great deal of value to be gleaned there as long as you recognize that it must come wrapped in a certain kind of packaging... i was surprised when a poll (i forget by who) revealed that a large percentage of dkos readers don't read other blogs... that's unfortunate...

based on larisa's well-deserved paean to you on her blog (to think i am corresponding directly with a future pulitzer prize-winner!), you might want to consider applying for the think progress fellows program... the deadline's been extended to may 6...

p.s. i posted on the pakistan story as it appeared in raw on my blog without realizing it was you... congrats... terrific work...

prof - yep, i need to work on the marketing side at DKOS better - normally i just put 'sibel' in the title and everything falls into place :-)

thanks for the TP tip - I wasn;t aware of that program - will look into it.

sincerely,

Future Pulitzer Prize-Winner

People interested in those subjects will peruse your whole diary. So, whatever you put in it is of interest. Don't mistake the number of comments or hit count for how much importance people ascribe to the material or how valid your work is--and the work is great, incidentally.

Most people didn't care about my father's work as an architect, and lots of people called him crazy. A few people who liked his work gave him a terrific career.

I don't know about Pulitzer, but I know you can enter the Nobel competition if the right person nominates you. Know any college professors? There's a list of people qualified to nominate prospective winners on their website. Should you look into it? Everyone who wins does.

Very meaty piece, Lux, much food for thought.

Uranus is so right, quality, not quantity is the best in the end.

I, for some reason, haven't developed a strong liking for DKos, I don't know why. I really took to Luke's place, though. Different groove.

I haven't made a detailed study of The Smirking Chimp, but it appears you can make diaries and start threads; in short, it looks like you can do everything Kos does and more. Further, they have regular contributors who are among the best news analysts and reporters writing today. Chimp is linked on many well-respected sites, seemingly more than Kos, so I can recommend it. Be aware that some well-known writers aren't getting big comment counts there, but it also shows the read counts, which are surprisingly good. Yes, it would be good to see Luke nominated or win one of these prizes, and it's possible. In studying it I've seen the process is very much driven from below, not above.
