US Vice-President Dick Cheney kept the heat on the Federal Opposition's Iraqi withdrawal policy yesterday by saying it would be "very unfortunate" if Australia took out its forces.
A country pulling out would be turning its back on the Iraqi people, he said. But Mr Cheney was careful to say he did not want to get involved in domestic politics, and his language was more diplomatic than President George Bush's description of a possible Australian withdrawal as "disastrous".
