they knew

* in a cute twist to the fact that the guardian's '8 charged' article was reported from washington, the nyt version of the article is reported from london. and blunkett is hopiing the judiciary will do its job, and ashcroft is hoping that blunkett will do his job. alls well - nuthin to see here. and just as i was bemoaning the dearth of nicknames "Among the eight men was an alleged ranking operative of Al Qaeda whom American law enforcement officials had earlier identified by an alias, Issa al-Hindi, which means Issa the Indian." and "Mr. Barot is also believed to have conducted surveillance activities in the United States in 2000 and early 2001 under the alias Issa al-Britani, or Issa the Briton". unfortunately we are having difficulties squaring up everyones story (fiction can be like that) "Officials in New York said the British authorities' time frame somewhat preceded the time that New York officials suspected that the surveillance had taken place." (no further analysis/explanation offered). i also love the way that 'radiological' and 'explosives' are all lumped together - a bit of, say, chlorine, or fertilizer, and all of the sudden we can set of nucular panic. the observant (or time-rich) amongt us will notice the difference between nyt's "radioactive materials, toxic gases, chemicals *and* explosives" and the guardian's "radioactive, chemical *or* explosive attacks." an innocent mistake im sure.

similarly, but to a much lesser degree, the nyt says "One of the men was charged with having a "terrorist's handbook" on explosives." vs "an extract of the Terrorist's Handbook" - cant we at least expect a journo from the paper of record to appreciate the difference between a proper and common noun, or the difference between a book and an extract.
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/18/international/europe/18terror.html?hp=&pagewanted=all&position= i remember reading something about the First something or other where u were allowed to do some things.

* the internet has been abuzz with the keyes/illinois thingy. i have nothing to add. its all just so GOP. http://www.bushlies.com/blog/index.php?p=90 and http://www.bushlies.com/blog/index.php?p=89

* "In fact, there is not a single battleground state... in which a non-partisan poll shows Bush with a lead larger than the poll's margin of error" and "Kerry leads (in Florida) in every poll." and "undecided voters tend to be more likely to break toward the challenger at the end of a presidential race." http://gadflyer.com/articles/?ArticleID=185

* "It is absolutely unprecedented to have this many high-profile reporters connected to high-profile stories (plame+ Wen Ho Lee (losalamos)) working for mainstream reputable newspapers facing jail time, it is unbelievable to me." http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000613547 - btw - in a galaxy long long ago i sed that the sotu/niger thing should bring the lot of em down (and there are a bunch of other cases which could each, individually, have the same outcome. and i still maintain that the entire FauxNews staff should be indicted on RICO charges (at a minimum). as Franklin said 'we should all hang together, lest we hang separately'

* "'NY Times' Gets 2 More Subpoenas in Plame Case" http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000613371

* the greek/motorbike/drug thing is gettting so much attention that im beginning to agree with the greeks that its a conspiracy. day 7 or something and its still #1 story on beeb news. shhhhh about iraq.

* the xtian right is a bunch of kooks. and dangerous. and they see israel as the endgame. http://www.buzzflash.com/farrell/04/08/far04028.html - separately, sharon is a murderous war criminal. claiming either or both of these things isnt antisemitic, despite the antidefamation leagues sensitivities and the (very effective) concomittant fear instilled in anyone who dare mention israel - playing the race-card and all that.

* "A senior officer (formerly 'Anonymous') for the Central Intelligence Agency who led the unit that tracked Osama bin Laden has written a blistering letter to the Sept. 11 commission, attacking both the C.I.A. and the commission itself over what he sees as a failure to punish "bureaucratic cowards" in the intelligence agencies." http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/17/politics/17intel.html?ex=buzzflash&pagewanted=all&position=

* "A man was sentenced to 21 years after pleading guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine." dog help us all http://www.unknownnews.net/040817drugs.html

* "BuzzFlash.com has an interesting history with the Booker School tape of George W. Bush. Several months after 9/11, we were doing some research and went to the Booker School website. To our amazement, there was a link to a video of Bush's "historic" visit to the school on the school Internet homepage that included Andrew Card informing him of the second terrorist plane attack and his continued presence in the classroom.... Not surprisingly, it mysteriously vanished from the Booker School site the next day" http://www.buzzflash.com/editorial/04/08/edi04057.html#top this is kinda interesting becos michaelmoore re f911 said he asked them for the vid (recently) and they said it was the first time anyone had ever asked for it. buzzflash also sez "We are offering a different version now, because the Booker School version was edited" - i wonder which version moore used.

* heres another thing ive just noticed that has gone unnoticed in the 'stunned mullet' analysis - watch the video - card is sposed to have said "A second plane hit the second tower. America is under attack." he can scarcely have had time to say it (time it yourself, and u can calibrate with the teachers words) - let alone make sure that the p-res knew, and acknowledged, what he said - not to mention that Card didnt wait for any instruction or anything - nor did he have time to say 'just sit there and wait till we tell u wot to do' or any such. and bush didnt do a doubletake or anything to check that he had heard correctly or any such - which is the sort of thing u'd do if u'd ever played chinese whispers, for example. the whole thing was totally orchestrated - and rehearsed. the whole 'bush is an idiot'/several/7/27 minutes thing is a red-herring. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew. they knew.
