* i cant wait to see what rove still has up his sleaze sleeve. 50 days to go. one things for sure he'll have a plan if jfk turns up the heat.

* the news is saying that the chechen leader has claimed responsibility for the bedlam thing - and they are showing a video of him talking without audio. problem is that his claim was a letter on a website.

* ive gotta say, theres a meme even amongst the left, that 'terrorism is never acceptable. ever. blah blah. kids. innocent civillians blah.' i dont take that as an absolute. of course i dont like kids getting blown up in a school - or adults - or anywhere. but i also dont like em getting blown up in a war either. particularly an illegal war. theres gotta be some relativity. theres *some* difference, but they arent miles apart either. and whats the difference between torturing someone to death at abug - even using the favourable 'ticking-time-bomb' scenario - vs beheading someone on tv with the hope of scaring away your opponent. a life here to save more later. the logic is reasonable. and even the morality.

given that bedlam was horrible, surely the hundreds of deaths in iraq in the last week, and the week before, and the week before, are somewhere in the same league. of course, im not saying that either the war or torture are reasonable either.
