Do I take the word of a madman?

* "By entering a 2-digit code in a hidden location, a second set of votes is created. This set of votes can be changed, so that it no longer matches the correct votes. The voting system will then read the totals from the bogus vote set." http://www.blackboxvoting.org/?q=node/view/78

* speaking of morewell - in case u missed it, 43's 'we are gonna spread freedom' thingy = "more war"

* its amazing that 43 can talk about saddam 'refusing to disarm' - even now that we know that he had nothing to disarm. who remembers that report that iraqis presented, and the us took it and redacted 8000 (?) pages before giving it to the UN? what an outrage. down the memoryhole. slurp. and somehow 43 can get away with implying that the un's 'serious consequences' thing meant 'blow everything up' - its astonishing. reality dont matter.

* and these stupid anecdotes that they make up are complete lies 'one soldier wrote home...' or rudy's 911 'i grabbed the guys arm next to me, without thinking, pure emotion, and sed 'thank god gwb is our president' pure fiction.

* or 43 said 'women in afghan no longer have to fear getting shot in sports arenas and buried in mass graves' - i have no idea whether women were dealt with in this fashion or not - but given the sentence structure, it simply doesnt matter.

* mlh made some good points 'why didnt 41 speak?' and 'we luv the bush twins' and 'wheres osama & powell?' ftr - 41 wasnt apparently very happy with the whole iraq thingy. and he gave his award to tedyykennedy!!! and he unceremoniously left his employ at carlyle.

* "Do I forget the lessons of September 11 and take the word of a madman or do I take action to defend our country?" he asked. "Faced with that choice, I will defend America every time." if thats true, then how can nthkorea still be standing?

* "Because a caring society will value its weakest members, we must make a place for the unborn child." stunning. come jan, there'll be no more (legal) abortion. and the unborn will become fully-fledged people - which will mean that mothers who have miscarriages can be charged with murder - one wonders whether this will be disproportionate for the poor and/or black. and women. itll be nice if they keep the 'cept for rape' clause - any black girl who complains of being raped will be forced to prove it, but nice teary white girls will get the 'u neednt relieve it, dear'. of course, caring for the unborn doesnt extend to the deformities and stuff caused by gulfwarsydrome - thats why they'll put a cap on malpractice suits to 'stop frivolous lawsuits'. its so beautiful in its symmetry. and in case thats not enough, we can pre-empt the 'activist judges' - with him promising to keep adding the same ilk judges who will dominate for another 40 years.

* of course, it wont be just abortions which will be outlawed - cos if a 2 day old zygote thingy is human cos it has the potential to be human, then contraception will be banned - cos those independent bits in each others' bodies also have the same potential, when mixed. perhaps itll become illegal to have a bloke and a chick stand next to each other without shagging - preventing aforementioned potential of humanity. and ftr, a year ago, larry flynt promised a pre-election release of the story about when george's lover had an abortion. and underage, to boot. ie stat rape. fingers x'd. and theres that other story of the chick who got suicided who had started legal proceedings that 43 raped her. and while we are talking about the death of the 'weakest members' - lets not forgot the bush family babysitter who got run over and killed, by her own car, in marvins driveway, last year, when the handbrake slipped. somehow.

* heres a nice article and pak and alq arrests and all http://www.unknownnews.org/040903Raman.html

* 'many gunmen escaped' from the school crisis thingy in russia. how does that happen? we'll probably hear that they get killed in shoothout or an apartment explosion or something in the next week. and of course we'll find unexploded suicidevests in the school which will tell us who the realculprits are. or a few korans lying around.

* im still stunned by the nyc/zogby/911 poll

* can u imagine the purple bandaid or flipflop thong thingys at the dnc?

* " If it is so blindingly obvious to the rest of the world that Bush is dumb, dangerous and the rest of it, how is it that millions of intelligent and perfectly decent people in the US see it so differently? Is it simply that they don't get it? Or that they have been brainwashed? Or that they are neither intelligent nor decent after all?" http://www.guardian.co.uk/uselections2004/comment/story/0,14259,1294069,00.html

* in case u missed it, theres a photo of 43 floating around dressed in military garb, and he is apparently wearing a medal that he didnt earn.

* btw - i may not have mentioned - the ozelection will be on oct9. nice to hear gwb mention howard - and at the top of the list.

* happy dailyshowing

* nyt manages to write about the job numbers without mentioning they were below expectations http://nytimes.com/2004/09/03/business/03CND-JOBS.html?hp

* krug getting serious - among other things: "Mr. Bush, it's now clear, intends to run a campaign based on fear. And for me, at least, it's working: thinking about what these people will do if they solidify their grip on power makes me very, very afraid." http://nytimes.com/2004/09/03/opinion/03krugman.html?hp to that let me add, 'thinking about what these people will do to solidify their grip on power makes me very, very afraid.'

* cant wait to see this one: "On Sunday the former lieutenant governor of Texas Ben Barnes will admit on the CBS primetime news programme 60 Minutes that he pulled strings to enrol Mr Bush in a unit of the Texas National Guard known as the Champagne Unit" he sez he is ashamed. and separately "George Jr sent out of Texas by father as a 'drunken liability'"
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uselections2004/story/0,13918,1296350,00.html

* facts dont matter - this from the guy who invoked nixon and got a cheer "Austrian historians are ridiculing Arnold Schwarzenegger for telling the Republican convention in New York that he saw Soviet tanks in his homeland as a child and left a "socialist" country when he moved away in 1968." http://www.guardian.co.uk/uselections2004/story/0,13918,1297203,00.html

* nice one from nyt ed "If Mr. Bush is rigid in his policies, he is remarkably flexible in marketing them." http://nytimes.com/2004/09/03/opinion/03fri1.html?hp

* "Zellot Miller later got annoyed at the line of questioning by a television interviewer, Chris Matthews of MSNBC's "Hardball," and said he wished he could challenge him to a duel." could the world be crazier? seriously. http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=domesticNews&storyID=6141122 the transcript is hysterical http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5892840/ (about halfway down). freaks. all of em. freaks i tells ya.

* "Reaction to Zell Miller's temper tantrum last night has not been pretty:" http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2004_09/004615.php

* " If that isn't enough danger for you, here's more: If both Bush and Cheney were to suddenly drop dead, the law would transfer the presidential powers to a man who proved himself an absolute nut job on the Aug. 29 edition of Fox News Sunday (ie the soros/drugs rubbish): Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert." http://slate.com/id/2106077/
thats some serious succession planning. im not sure if we shold keep our fingers crossed for 1, 2, 3 or zero deaths amongst this lot.

* LAtimes ed: "The Bush administration is ignoring, if not defying outright, the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that all terror suspects must be able to challenge their imprisonment. The opening round of detainee military tribunals at Guantanamo Bay last week resembled something between a Mel Brooks farce and the kangaroo courts of former Ugandan dictator Idi Amin." http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/editorials/la-ed-detainees2sep02,0,1520334.story?coll=la-news-comment-editorials
