* "An uptick in airstrikes and other military moves point to an imminent showdown between U.S. forces and Sunni Muslim insurgents west of Baghdad... Although Fallujah leaders insist there are no more than a few foreign fighters in the city, Arab journalists who have visited say they heard non-Iraqi accents at some checkpoints." i hate the ap. im still not sure that they wont attack fallujah pretue.

* ftr - if i was an amcit id be voting for kerry. id have my reservations about him - but they are to do with him being too much of a hawk (if he wins and appoints armitage ill scream really really loud). but i wouldnt have to hold my nose to vote for him like many others. he actually really looks like president. and sensible. and he'll have a lot of apologising to do. but there are still many who are apparently concerned that he is a zigzagger and has a whole bunch of weaknesses. i dont buy into that for a minute. the idea that he is a lesser-evil tweedledee just doesnt seem right to me. he *could* even be a great president. if he wins, he's gonna need a whole lotta help and be really lucky just to be able to step back from the precipice. if he wins tho, the goodguys are gonna have to backup their good work - starting nov3 - and keep fightin the good fight - but i almost feel like jonk could actually be a reasonable leader of the cause. and hopefully he'll bring the troops home quick. but im not convinced. (excuse the phantasy)
as far as i can tell he made one statement that i dont get - and it is so incongruent that im just gonna have to assume it never happened - when he said he'd have gone to war given what we know now.
