more beer

* (my computer has crashed a few times in the last 48 hours - and im not sure which stories i lost - so u might get some repeats)

VOTE
* the headline is that the ohio court case has been dropped, but "We are not quitting. We are going on to any other forum that's available and we intend to pursue those avenues aggressively," Arnebeck said.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A899-2005Jan11.html

* wapo joins in and actually uses my fave conyers moneyquote "In many cases these irregularities were caused by intentional misconduct and illegal behavior, much of it involving Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell, the co-chair of the Bush-Cheney campaign in Ohio." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A61930-2005Jan9.html

* conyers writes a nice 'thankyou' letter (and promises to get into the plamegame!) http://www.johnconyers.com/

* mysterypollster responds to my question about the exitpolls. http://www.mysterypollster.com/main/2005/01/fun_with_unweig.html

* williamriverspitt interviews camkerry http://www.truthout.org/docs_05/011105W.shtml

* repug creeps might actually get a revote in washington (state, unfortunately). "Slade Gorton, a Republican former state attorney general and U.S. senator who is advising Mr. Rossi, says a court should order a revote rather than declare valid one of the two earlier vote counts that Mr. Rossi won. "No one can govern effectively under the cloud this race has created," Mr. Gorton says. He notes that state law doesn't require any showing of fraud to contest an election. "That is irrelevant to whether the election should be done over," he says. "The law is quite clear in giving a court the right to void any election where the number of illegal or mistaken votes exceeds the margin of victory, and it has done so in the past."" go read, then shower. dripping with ironing. http://www.opinionjournal.com/diary/?id=110006139

* nashadv notes that the media reporting re election problems has ticked up. http://nashuaadvocate.blogspot.com/2005/01/news-election-2004-election-reform.html

WART
* how long till the front door draft drumbeat gets louder?

* heres to my point of the folly of the 'attacks per day' kpi (i
havent used that term in a long time!) "Brig. Gen. David Rodriguez
told reporters at the Pentagon on Friday of an ominous new
development in Iraq. "We've noticed in the recent couple of weeks,"
he said, "that the I.E.D.'s [improvised explosive devices] are all
being built more powerfully, with more explosive effort in a
smaller number of I.E.D.'s.""
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/10/opinion/10herbert.html

* one thing that we keep hearing about iraq is that itll be better
when 'we' have a police/security force. fine. but we have to train
them. fine - except for the fact that there are obviously a bunch
of trained police/security folk - the place was probably safer than
newyork for 30 years. whats the best we can hope for? an iraqi
kerik? we'd yearn for that sort of corruption and thuggery. can we
leave yet?

* "Charles Clarke, the home secretary, is also planning to announce a civil punishment for those suspected of “associating” with terrorist suspects, but where there is insufficient proof to press charges." this is a terrific article - ive chosen just one of the highlights - being suspected of associating with suspects is a crime. um. where does it stop? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2089-1431539,00.html

* and now we want to "hunt down and kill sympathizers" in iraq. for the moment. what happens if u merge Negroponte with gonzales and shake a lil? how long till this idea merges with the point above? go read the article. prepare yourself first. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6802629/site/newsweek/

* "Forcing naked Iraqi prisoners to pile themselves in human pyramids was not torture, because American cheerleaders do it every year, a court was told today. "Don’t cheerleaders all over America form pyramids six to eight times a year. Is that torture?" said Guy Womack, Sergeant Graner’s lawyer"" i love the '6 to 8 times p.a.' thingy. sweet. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,7374-1434680,00.html

OTHER
* mmoore was on leno - he pulled out the f911 outtake of portergoss. no sign of the sunberg outtake.

* "He's running unopposed, but Mohamed ElBaradei still may fail in his bid for a third term leading the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency, tripped by his main opponent, the United States." http://www.sptimes.com/2005/01/09/Worldandnation/US_quietly_tries_to_r.shtml

* if Dog did the tsunami, does it make sense to pray for the
wellbeing of the survivors? if Dog didnt do the tsunami, does it
make sense to pray for the wellbeing of the survivors? praps its
time to smote Dog herself. praps she needs a chiding.

* yesterday morning there was an old lady in a motorised wheelchair in my backyard when i woke up. that doesnt happen very often around here.
