just us day

FRIST STUFF
* heres frist's JusticeDay video appearance. he's an evil, lying sack-of-shit.

* "I can understand why Maureen Dowd isn't thrilled by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger's ascension to the papacy, but can he be so bad as to warrant comparing him to President Bush, Tom DeLay and Bill Frist?" LINK
thats a funny LTE

* "As Bruce Landesman, a philosophy professor at the University of Utah, pointed out in a letter to The Times: "Those who hold 'liberal' views are not relativists. They simply disagree with the conservatives about what is right and wrong."" LINK

* meanwhile, broder is getting slammed for this article where he says that the dems should let through 7 of the judges in return for a repug promise.
"...while the opposition still has a constitutional role to play, at the end of the day that function has to be more than talking important matters to death." LINK
- i dont think mr broder has thought that one through very well...

* biden made some noises that he might compromise and let some judges through. thats the wrong decision. if they are unacceptable, they are unacceptable. the obvious next step by the repugs would be to nominate more, and crazier, unacceptable judges. then what do the dems do? let through a few, but not the most extreme? and then the next time? its a losing game, people.

* scalia complained that judges should be appointed unanimously, like he was. theres a valid point in there somewhere.

* "The country's leading business lobbying associations, close GOP allies in recent legislative efforts and political campaigns, have told senior Republicans that they would not back the Frist initiative to force votes on President Bush's judicial nominees." LINK
apparently shutting down the senate is bad for bizness, but the fetusfolk want the senate shut down, cos the "Rarely do they do things for us. Usually it's against us."

* "Republicans were very careful in the choice of the nominees for this confrontation: Janice Rogers Brown of California and Priscilla Richman Owen of Texas. They deliberately chose these two nominees to try to put Democrats on the defensive if they attempt again to deny two women, one of them an African American, an up-or-down vote." LINK
this is the same shit they pulled with the anti.c.rice and gonzales. their cynicism knows no bounds.

* theres a theocon-watch conference in nyc next weekend "Examining the Real Agenda of the Religious Far Right". it mite be interesting. and depending on the fallout from the injusticesunday nonsense and whether the nuclear option gets triggered in the next few days, the conference might sound more interesting on friday than it does now...
