* btw - i see that justice-to-be ROberts is a Federalist. someone should do a quick check to see how many Federalists are in-and-around this administration. its scary.
* separately, im gonna try not to blog too hard on the scotus nomination - cos i dont know much - but i quoted recently someone saying (i think they were joking) that there should be a bush v gore litmus test. roberts doesnt pass that test - and the somnambulant many seem to realise that bush stole 2000 (even if that 'understanding' has been diluted somewhat by the 2004 election (for whatever illegitimate reason)). if i could give some advice to the reality based folk, its this: its delicious to imagine the entire egadminsitration in orange, and we are winning on that score - people are quite quickly waking up to the fact that the president and his friends are either totally incompetent, or simply fucking crazy and power-hungry criminals. as you know, ive been saying the same thing for 3 years. Roberts is merely an incremental part of the puzzle - if we dont tear down the entire core of the govt, then the entire planet is fucked. even if we 'win' on roberts, we lose if we dont bring down the whole house of cards. it strikes me that we have a delicious convergence of events - we have the dsm hearings this weekend, and we have rove on the ropes and we won on bolton and we need to tie them all together - otherwise we'll just get diebolded and/or gerrymandered in 06. remember, 90% of seats are effectively one-party races - and we cant wait till 2008.
people have started to realise that bolton is a fucking danger to the planet *and* he was involved in the 2000 fiasco. so was roberts. the best game that we can play at the moment is to put the entire govt into stasis until the impeachment. its true that people only understand small crimes, which is why the dukestir is in trouble while DeLay is still somewhat alive - so we can oppose Roberts on Roe or whatever, but the broad goal has to be about bringing down the entire machine. like i said repeatedly about bolton - it doesnt matter if he gets confirmed, if the machine still exists, they can just put someone else in his place - the 'only' benefit in the bolton noise was in highlighting the disgusting behaviour of the administration.
even if the bolton nomination dies on the vine, we need to keep reminding people that the administration even considered him for the position *and* fought *hard* for it. and we need to remind people about boltons role in the 2000 election. "im john bolton and im here to stop the count". the same thing goes for Roberts - lets put that part of his fabulous resume front and center - not only to defeat his nomination, but to tear down the entire radministration. the 'cronyism' story is nearly breaking through. even if we defeat Roberts, theyll just find a cleanskin to replace him. same with bolton. we need to destroy the machine - and it almost feels like that is a possibility.
so lets destroy Roberts - but not on narrow grounds. otherwise we'll lose. even if we win. as ive said repeatedly - bolton needs to be destroyed too, but not just as bolton in isolation, but as part of an environment where Tenet and Bremmer got medals, and in an environment where rumsfeld's offers of resignation were dismissed, and in an environment where the anti.c.rice got promoted and where Torture Gonzales got promoted etc etc. as ive mentioned, the new AbuG pix should be released today - its all part of the same mix. and we've got the dsm hearings this weekend and we've got karl-gate still on the front pages despite the scotus nom and iraq is just such a disaster that i can barely watch. and people are fucking sick of it. and people are starting to wake up. we are almost at the point that if blinky ordered another war tomorrow, people would tear down the gates at the shitehouse - we need to make sure that these events arent seen in isolation.
heres the message: bush stole the 2000 election - Rove engineered it - bolton was deeply involved. so was Roberts. the egadmin loves rewarding their cronies - thats why we are at war. and we'll have more wars soon unless there is some serious house-cleaning.
