first they came for the fictional characters

* "The coalition government relied heavily on a revolving door of diplomats and other personnel who would leave just as they had begun to develop local knowledge and ties, and on a large cadre of eager young neophytes whose brashness often gave offense in a very age- and status-conscious society. One young political appointee (a 24-year-old Ivy League graduate) argued that Iraq should not enshrine judicial review in its constitution because it might lead to the legalization of abortion." LINK
just like home...

* digby: "They don't want people to see them losing the war in Iraq or failing to quell terrorism. Instead the chickenhawk army is going to stage a summer pageant in which they will take the fight to the only enemy they have ever beaten (barely) --- Democrats...
I don't see this as doom for the Democrats. The public is wavering in their support for Bush and they aren't giving him the benefit of the doubt anymore. If the Dems stick together on this it is a very powerful message, regardless of the ultimate outcome. Remember, they believe that the perception of winning is more important than actually winning. That's how we get them. Deny them that perception...
In their minds it's the public perception of losing on Bolton, social security, Schiavo and Iraq that is causing their problems, not Bolton, social security, Schiavo or Iraq themselves." LINK

* heres a comment from kevindrum's site re scotus: "Y'know what I'd like to see at the confirmation hearings? Instead of Roe v. Wade used as a litmus test, use Bush v. Gore!" LINK
cute. however, it neednt be binary, of course.

* "If the Iraq war is all about terrorism...and always was....
Aren't "Mission Accomplished" and the "end of major combat operations" even more blatant lies than under any of the previous justifications?" LINK

* joshmarshall on scotus: "Spongebob, head for the border now, buddy." LINK
first they came for the fictional characters.

* "MSNBC Analyst Says Cooper Documents Reveal Karl Rove as Source in Plame Case" LINK http://www.mediainfo.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000972839
its difficult to believe that krove actually condemned himself in emails. curious.

* Matthew Yglesias points to Brad DeLong on the recruiting fiasco. given that DeLong points to my post, i'll take that as an indirect link from Prospect ;-)

* "To be sure, Bush’s use of the recess appointment would be consistent with the way in which other presidents have creatively applied Article II, Section 2, Paragraph 3 of the Constitution, the portion of the law that grants the executive the power to appoint nominees while Congress is on recess. But as Fred Kaplan pointed out on Slate, recess appointments tend to be doled out so that a nominee may avoid a painful nomination process. With Bolton, Bush would be reversing that equation. After four months, Bolton’s reputation has been ripped to shreds." LINK
