luton cctv 'footage'

"A CCTV image released by Scotland Yard of Hasib Hussain at Luton station." LINK

the footage of the famous four together at Kings Cross was found on Monday, and we were told that the footage would be released 'probably tomorrow'. we havent seen it yet.

they have helpfully released this one picture, apparently from Luton. i dont know anything about cctv - is the footage always of such poor quality? it hardly seems of sufficient quality to actually identify anyone with anything approaching certainty. even a mother would find it difficult - im sure the mother will tell us if she has any doubts, but still. speaking of the mother,
from her phone call to the police, those searching the cctv footage "were told to look for a distinctive coloured top worn by Hussain" (link) i wonder if the mum recognises the backpack he has in the pick or if that was provided by somnambulant cell fellows.

the "police are renewing appeals for witnesses and information" (link) but for some reason they havent released the footage from kings cross. that seems odd to me. you'd think that if they were begging people for help, it'd make most sense to offer as many memory triggers as possible. for example, if it was me, i'd probably release the pictures of them when they were together and which apparently shows them 'heading off in different directions', and id tell people exactly when the picture was taken and i'd tell people exactly where it was taken. was it in the Underground? upstairs? on a particular platform? near a particular ticket machine? that sort of thing.

in fact, as best as i can tell from the Met website, the most definitive statement theyve made is: "'We have identified CCTV footage showing the four men at King's Cross station shortly before 8.30am" (link) - all the other stuff about them looking like they were going on holiday et al seems to be anonymously sourced to a "senior security source" (link) or here

about finding the footage, we are also told: ""They must have been very lucky," says Graeme Jones, an expert in video surveillance at Kingston University, UK. "We thought it would take them a very long time."" (link). thats from newscientist - i didnt see that reported elsewhere, although we were told in advance that it would be 'painstaking'. im sick to death of lucky breaks like this.

another reason to release the cctv footage would be so that people could see the 'identical large military-style backpacks' - that might trigger some memories. the Met is now simply saying (of the Luton pic) "You can see from the CCTV image that he was carrying a rucksack." (link)

i wonder when they'll release the footage, and i wonder if it'll show what they have been purporting. its pretty difficult to imagine how the footage could hurt their investigation.
