Granite Shadow

* "Today, somewhere in the DC metropolitan area, the military is conducting a highly classified Granite Shadow "demonstration."
Granite Shadow is yet another new Top Secret and compartmented operation related to the military’s extra-legal powers regarding weapons of mass destruction. It allows for emergency military operations in the United States without civilian supervision or control." (link)
lets hope they all go home before the march on saturday.

* " Senators from both parties accused the Defense Department on Wednesday of obstructing an investigation into whether a highly classified intelligence program known as Able Danger did indeed identify Mohamed Atta and other future hijackers as potential threats well before the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001." (link)

* "Faced with the biggest crisis of his political life, President Bush has hit the bottle again, The National Enquirer can reveal." (link)

* "The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said he urged President George W. Bush today to delay nominating a replacement for retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor." (link)

* "As many wing nuts babbled ad nauseum about Katrina being God’s very own way of saying how pissed he was at the gays and other New Orleans debauchery, I will assume that Rita is the man upstairs saying that George W, Tom DeLay, Rick Perry, et al, have pissed him off royally." (link)

* for some reason, the police in london have released cctv footage of the bombers in their 'dry run', but still havent released the kings cross cctv from the day of the bombings - thats the footage that 'proved' the story.

* "The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee held up Safavian's nomination for more than a year, in part because of lawmakers' concerns about lobbying work for two men later accused of links to suspected terrorist organizations" (link)
lobbying and terrorism and abramoff/norquist. sibel might have been onto something...

* "DONALD RUMSFELD: The people of Tal Afar were liberated from the grip of insurgents and foreign extremists who had tried to turn the city into a base of planning operations and training. A number of insurgents were caught fleeing the city dressed in women's clothing, hardly a sign of a confident group supported by the citizenry." (link)
i love it when the military simply makes shit up.

* lehrer did a piece on Able Danger. apparently the problem was that Atta was named in a "Brooklyn Cell" - and the fact that it was called Brooklyn meant that the Pentagon lawyers were worried that was dangerously close to "investigating american persons" - so they destroyed all the evidence. fucking liars. what the hell is going on???
