Impeach Bush

* ""Impeach Bush" is the #1 searched term on Technocrati today. Incredible." (link)

* "The Guardian has learned that Jack Straw, the foreign secretary, has made a personal plea to his American counterpart, Condoleezza Rice, for the US to withdraw opposition to plans for wholesale reform of the UN.
He has asked Ms Rice to rein in John Bolton, the US ambassador to the world body." (link)

* "There is an old saying which I will paraphrase here. Amatuers pay attention to tactics and strategy. Experts pay attention to logistics. Rommel lost in Africa for a want of parts, men, and gasoline. America is headed for a major loss in Iraq because of a lack of soldiers, reconstruction, and intelligence. As the public services begin collapsing, the government we have propped up will lose whatever legitimacy it has left. As the Iraqi client government loses whatever shred of popular legitimacy it has left, its security forces will turn coat or fade away. As its security forces fade away, insurgents will move into the next phase of guerilla warfare and begin taking large areas. As that that happens, the already over-stretched US military will be spread too thin.
When the US military gets spread too thin reacting to this, the insurgents will be able to attack and eventually cut off their supply lines. The fewer US soldiers we have there, the more likely this is to happen. When those lines of communication or lines of supply get cut, positions and bases will have to be evacuated or orderly retreat and fall back to a more defensible deployment. Failure to do otherwise will result in positions being over-run. Think Blackhawk Down only a hundred times over." (link)

* naygin: " “Make sure that whether it’s Ray Nagin or the governor or the president, we take a serious look at this and make the changes that need to be made. I’m afraid some of this was a tug-of-war about who gets to spend the money at the end of the day. And I don’t appreciate that." (link)

* driftglass continues his bitchslapping of 'moderate' repugs: "With Bush poll numbers rocketing towards the Center of the Earth faster than you can say James Mason and Arlene Dahl, it would appear that while the evil that are the Conservative Fundamentalism, Segregationist and Chickenhawk wings of the GOP is getting even more distilledly shrill and insane every day, some small number of Moderates are slowly shaking off the booze and the pills and the promises of endless tax cuts, finding the nation not in a the perfumed boudoir of a lovely lass but lashed to the butcher-block in a Bush’s blood-slick basement abattoir and asking themselves, “What did we get ourselves into?”
To which I can only reply, “Why do you mean “we” you chancred Bushfluffin’ whore?”" (link)

* "FEMA refused evacuation help from Amtrak; it turned away experienced fire fighters and first responders; it turned back Wal-Mart supply trucks; refused to allow the Red Cross to deliver food; blocked a 500-boat citizen flotilla from delivering aid; turned away generators and other equipment. In other words, FEMA went out of its way to deny aid and allow people to die from dehydration, starvation, and lack of medicine and medical help." (link)

* "Boeing may end up paying a fine as large as $500 million, according to a report in Friday's Wall Street Journal. That would make it one of the biggest penalties levied on a U.S. company for misconduct." (link)
