Living Too Much in the Bubble

* there are a couple of big pieces on the hurricane and bush. here's Newsweek's "How Bush Blew It" and Times "Living Too Much in the Bubble?"

Both of them are worth reading, despite both being littered with anonymous whitehouse sources trying to spin furiously. i loevd this one in particular: " Louisiana officials say it took hours for Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco to reach Bush (although when she did, he talked to her soothingly, according to White House officials)." lol - is that the best theyve got?

and this sort of thing: "Ken Mehlman, the party's chairman and Bush's campaign manager last year, told TIME that viewers at home will think it's "kind of ghoulish, the extent to which you've got political leaders saying not 'Let's help the people in need' but making snide comments about vacations.""
hysterical. they really have got NUTHIN. ghoulish??? wtf?

they are so far off their game - its incredible. the entire machinery has collapsed. i love it.

the other observation i have about these two pieces is that even when trying to outline the debacle, both of these pieces cant help the fawning. the one thing that stood out to me is that they seem to fall into the trap that because blinky is so appalling at detail, they assume that he must be a big picture kinda guy. the reality is that he is simply appalling and inept across the board.

(and who knew this: "Karl Rove, was on the disabled list for part of last week, working from home after being briefly hospitalized with painful kidney stones."? is that fitzgerald induced stress?)
