are you ashamed yet, america?

* "Mexico has abolished its death penalty." (link)
yay for sanity. are you ashamed yet, america?

* driftglass: "The rulers of Iran, as I have said, are genuinely Bad Guys. However, simply as a recognition of technical excellence in the field of geopolitical bitchslappery, calling out our government as slipshod bumblefucks by making United State’s involvement in the bidding process contingent on our ability to meet the Iranian's “basic standards and quality” was some top shelf snark." * "(Novak) said she hoped she would not have to go before the grand jury. She hired a lawyer and opted not to tell her editors in hopes that she would not become a figure in the story and the subject of news accounts. But on the day she was writing a story about Washington Post reporter and Assistant Managing Editor Bob Woodward being deposed in the investigation, she learned Fitzgerald wanted to interview her under oath." i wonder how much of a 'coincidence' it was that Novak got the Woodward interview. you'll remember i was most curious that Time got the interview at the time.
