delay took out livingston

* tongues are atwitter with this (gossip) news:
"Jack Abramoff's partner Mike Scanlon admitted to digging up former Congressman Robert Livingston's private life. Set to become speaker, Livingston then got sidelined for Tom DeLay's man Denis Hastert. Prosecutors now checking if Abramoff and Scanlon took Livingston down at DeLay's behest."
Larry Flynt took credit for that - i wonder how they divvied up the million bucks. DeLay probably sent it in unmarked bills to the NRCC on the understanding that it got fed into trmpac or some such.

Josh: hmmmm
Kevin Drum: hmmmm
Laura: "There's just not many perks left for GOP operatives these days. They're threatening to take away the skyboxes, the golfing trips to Scotland with lobbyists, the free meals, the gambling wins, the yachts and houseboats, and now they want to take away the dirty tricks?"

Seriously though - my question is under what circumstances did Scanlon 'admit' it? was he asked about it by prosecutors? why on earth would they do that? or did scanlon offer it up all by himself? and if so, why?

(Livingston is already in our cross-hairs for his ongoing role in sibelgate.)
