COLBERT WASNT EVEN FUNNY

a couple of comments re richard cohen being batshitfuckingcrazyabsurd about colbert

damien:
"rude?...what's rude?...I'll tell you what's rude...lying your f-ing head off in a SOTU address so that 2000 US soldiers can be needlessly killed, 20,000 more maimed for life and 100,000 Iraqi's burned, shot, bombed and tortured to satisy you and your thieving f-ing buddies.

Maybe you didn't notice Richard Cohen? - that's war crimes and crimes against humanity. They hanged people for that at Nuremberg. Maybe, just maybe the world will get really f-ing lucky...."
i agree with damien's sentiments - although i take some issue with his numbers. the '100,000 dead iraqis' number is now 20 months old - and that number was fudged downwards to begin with. i'll also take the opportunity to note that even though the american deaths are just a rounding error, the media only cites the deaths of american soldiers - not americans (contractors etc). I ran a blog back in september called Operation Milestone Millstone that tried to count all the dead americans, and to note when that number ticked over to 2000. I will revive that blog as we count down to 3000 dead AMERICANS (not soldiers).
(and looking back at that site - i'm reminded that i used to call the cabal the Mission Accomplices - and i'm bummed that i forgot to use that expression on May 1 this year)

i'm still stunned by the preznit's tasteless, classless little routine from two years back--now AFAIC, that's worse than rude to every person who's died in Iraq for no reason apart from dum-Bo wanting to be a war preznit.

and the corporate media thought it was comedy, still amazing to me.

i'm not sure that 'tasteless' and 'classless' come close to describing that performance - i'm not sure that any words could adequately describe that performance - or the audience response. apparently only david corn thought it weird.

but to damien and richard cohen and rimone - let me remind you COLBERT WASNT EVEN FUNNY - so the joke is on him. or something.

Have we ever clarified how many American vets have died after they've returned to the states or been put in off-site hospitals? I recall earlier some speculation that those casualties also weren't being included in the official death toll numbers as well. To me, though the big number to be concerned about this time around is how many American vets are permanently maimed from this war and at a level lot worse than Vietnam and other earlier wars where they might have had higher death tolls, but many of those higher numbers that died in those wars are those that are "surviving" today, only to be lifelong invalids. And couple that with the reduction of VA benefits in many areas too, when these soldiers probably actually need MORE medical assistance per capita than in previous wars, that's where we're also being totally screwed too!

calipendence - i'm not sure how many have died off-site - there was a rumour going around that some that died in germany werent being counted.

i'm not sure they're counting the suicides either... or the high miscarriage rates from the DU etc etc

i've read here and there over the last few years that those who don't die in Iraq are totally not counted. and i remember reading in about june 2004 that there were over 19,000 injured US troops in that DE hospital (i think Landstuhl). |-(

about Colbert--he's so not funny that every day this week including today, my UK friends are still mailing me about it e.g., '... I dont even know who the guy is, its pretty funny though...'
