Hookergate & the KGB

* bradblog has the video of the final bill maher episode - and richard clarke is on the show. at the start of the second part, clarke says that hooker-gate has everything: hookers, watergate hotel, the CIA, the KGB, congressmen on the take, and it's all true.
did we know that the KGB was involved? or is that new news? does it have anything to do with this?

* desi on judy/911:
"First, if this is true, I wonder if the source was the frustrated Agent Harry Samit, desperate to get someone to pay attention to the evidence he had collected on Mohammed Atta"
* apparently the egadministration could have prevented 911 if they were doing more spying - perhaps they should have tapped harry samit's phone.
(btw - the latest story on the spying thing is that maybe only only long-distance phone-calls were tapped. does that make sense to anyone?

* this via calipendence:
"Where Does Brian Bilbray Really Live? It is now more than just mudslinging in the race for the 50th Congressional District...
These are serious allegations against a man who has run a campaign saying San Diego is and always will be his home... Virginia property records show Bilbray claims a home in Alexandria, Va., as his primary residence, for tax purposes.
The same is true for a home in Imperial Beach.
Bilbray and his wife, Karen, also claim the Imperial Beach home as their primary residence... If Bilbray lives in Virginia, he may not be eligible to run for the congressional seat here."
does that mean busby would run uncontested? i'd actually rather see her beat him...

* mo' corruption:
"The Air Force's highest-ranking officer, General T. Michael Moseley, and his predecessor, Gen. John Jumper, are the subjects of an FBI investigation into the handling of a $49.9 million dollar contract for the Air Force Thunderbirds, the air demonstration squadron... The case was referred to the Inspector General for the Department of Defense, and the FBI later joined the investigation."
(speaking of IG DoD, has someone written the book on Schmitz yet? what a piece of work he is. he's now at Blackwater)

* everyone's excited about the Haditha massacre - probably because of Murtha's comments. KR has this story in March. see here and here for democracynow from march

* jeralyn:
"I think York is correct and Madsen got spun about Gonzales. But none of this means Karl Rove will or will not be indicted tomorrow. The mainstream media is conspicuously avoiding the topic. Stay tuned."
( a commentor there says: "when I had encountered Joe Wilson on Saturday that was one thing he had told me - that Gonzales had been at the Courthouse on Friday.")

* a commentor @ FDL:
"There’s no danger of Armitage being prosecuted for anything. He just joined the board at ConocoPhillips, and securities laws mean that he’d have to have a letter from Fitzgerald saying he wasn’t under legal jeopardy."
