four thousand 911s

* soto:
"What happens to the administration’s rationale for all domestic surveillance, data monitoring, and wiretapping if it were revealed that not only was 9/11 not the trigger for these illegal activities, but that the Bush Administration embarked on this data grab from its first days in office? Furthermore, remember all those claims by Cheney, Bush, and Michael Hayden that if they had such data access before 9/11 they may have been able to prevent the attacks, claims that have been debunked by the likes of Richard Clarke and others? What happens to the Bush Administration’s defense that they could not have prevented 9/11 if in fact they were already spying on American domestic calls and were still unable to stop 9/11?"
(there's some confusion about which program started when)

* independent:
""The trends indicate that the area of cultivation will be considerably higher than in 2004," said a representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, which will publish its annual report of the Afghan opium harvest next month.

In 2004, about 130,000 hectares of opium poppy was cultivated, which has been the largest so far, despite poor growing conditions that year. Better conditions across the country this year will help produce the largest tonnage of opium ever. But Afghanistan is already responsible for about 87 per cent of the world's opium and more than 90 per cent of the heroin consumed in Britain.
[]
The drugs economy is valued at $2.7bn, equivalent to more than 50 per cent of Afghanistan's legal economy. "
i wonder who gets the lion's share of the $2.7bn. by my count that sorta dough could get you 4 thousand 911s - or about ten days worth of an iraq invasion.

"I gotta say, the attacks on the NY Times and the Supreme Court this week are pretty disturbing. It’s like the entire political debate in this country has devolved to the level of, well, blogs."
funny.

There is no confusion.

Former FBI Agent Colleen Rowley who testified to the Senate in the 9/11 hearings, has been saying all along that the NSA domestic surveilance started many months before 9/11. Go to her website. She's running for Congress in Minnesota. She's like Sible Edmonds.

thnx - my point re the confusion is that there are a number of different spying programs - that's all.

does rowley say that the DOMESTIC NSA spying was before 911?

NOTHING, nobody's gonna notice and even if they did, the Dems won't do shit about it.
