Ms Rice

* re the Tice subpoena, a friend writes via email:
"Good timing vis a vis Bolton and the NSA intercepts the SFRC wants. Sibel should say something about the Bush administration refusing to submit (the NSA intercepts) on the Bolton (hearings)."
a good point. If Tice continues to get the media coverage that he got today, up to his appearance next week, perhaps we can use that as leverage on Bolton.

* soto:
"Days after Bill Clinton stood next to Joe Leaverman and he and Hillary expressed their support for his reelection, the Big Dog came out yesterday and told Israel that their Lebanese campaign is disproportionate and a cease-fire is necessary to stop the killing. What will the Big Dog do when Joe sticks it to Clinton and continues to side with letting Israel do whatever it wants for as long as it wants?"
* nyt:
"While other countries were pushing for a statement that said the group would work toward an “immediate cease-fire,” Ms. Rice insisted on “work immediately” toward a cease-fire. That may be a small point to most people, but it is a huge one diplomatically since it shifts the burden away from an immediate cessation of violence and more toward diplomacy, a shift that also buys Israel more time to keep up its campaign."
(since when did the NYT follow the Moonie Times and refer to her repeatedly as Ms Rice?)

* xymphora:
"The only logical conclusion is that the Israeli generals sent a group of Israeli soldiers into Lebanon on a suicide mission, intending that they be killed and/or captured by Hezbollah. It would not surprise me if they let Hezbollah know the soldiers were coming by broadcasting the information over signals they knew Hezbollah was monitoring. The soldiers, of course, wouldn’t know what was planned for them, and would have assumed that this was just another of the many illegal Israeli incursions onto Lebanese territory. In other words, the Israeli generals sent their young conscripts over the Lebanese border with the intention that they be captured or die, all in order to create the excuse for the pre-planned attack on Lebanon."

I'm afraid XYMPHORA makes waaaay tooo much sense to me.

They forgot though, that the Israeli tanks would be left behind, as evidence of their incursion.
