And they all vote fucking Republican

* wapo: "
Rep. Robert W. Ney (R-Ohio) is expected to plead guilty in the coming days to charges stemming from his association with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, and he will blame a long-standing problem with alcohol for behavior that spiraled down to illegality, sources close to the congressman said last night.

Ney, known in Abramoff-related court documents as "Representative No. 1," checked into a rehabilitation clinic for alcoholism yesterday, a senior House official and personal friend said yesterday. Under pressure from Republican leaders worried about losing his seat, Ney announced this summer that he would retire from Congress at the end of the year."
lol.

* nyt has a strong ed about stuff. check out the adjectives that jump out at you. it ends:
"Perhaps the voters will not judge them harshly this fall. But history will."
*xymphora:
"Needless to say, it is anti-Semitic to suggest that one of the goals of (Israel's) attack was to destroy Lebanon, and therefore I suppose anti-Semitic to quote the admission of the Prime Minister of Israel that the entire attack was a success because half of a non-threatening sovereign nation was destroyed. "
* drifty:
"And we are must endure this particular species of agony for no other reason than hateful people vote. Stupid people vote. Christopaths vote. Racists vote. The fearful vote. Cowards vote. Loonies vote.

And they all vote fucking Republican.'

* drifty on Blinky's 911 speech:
"The speech itself was like someone had accidentally hit the "Play All" button on a 20-track recording of every other speech Dubya has give trying to weld Iraq and terrorism together in the public imagination."

I second Xymphora. One of the UN peacekeepers killed in Israeli airstrike lived couple of miles from me, and was buried to nearby cemetary last sunday. I just took some roses to his grave from my garden. I guess I should counter this blatantly anti-semitic act by taking some to local Israeli embassy too, if there's one here.

(Sorry if I sound a bit miffed, but couple of days ago a random bypasser loudly accused me of being a nazi for thinking about visiting Lebanon as a tourist.)

superteemu - sorry to hear.

yeah - perhaps you should sign a peace msg on one of the bombs they are going to use like those young girls.

btw - i presume your cousin (?) got home safe?

My cousin is safe, thanks, and waiting for the next crisis to plunge into. Thank god Baghdad coverage is now fully outsourced to locals so he's not going back in there.

(My description of the incident above sounds a bit wrong now that I read it - it was both sad and hilarious, really, as the lady was clearly a fanatic loonie - but disappointment comes from the fact that even obviously well-meaning, deeply religious people buy the toxic narrative, as it originates from "trusted source", which I guess is another church member with enough english skills to read patrobertsons as news. We need more of that peace Jesus now.)
