"In the generic congressional poll, Democrats now have a staggering 19% lead. As far as I know, this is unprecedented a week before an election.* wowsers. Lehrer barely mentioned Kerry in the show tonight. A brief mention in the headlines. How adult. OTOH, Fox was all Kerry, all day, as you probably know. My highlight was the Cavuto show which had some screen text that read something like: "John Kerry's Gaffe: Will the economy help or hurt the GOP?"
Other results: The Iraq war is the most important issue by a huge margin. George Bush's approval/disapproval rating for handling the war is a subterranean -35%, and even for the broader war on terrorism it's -4%. More people think the economy is getting worse than think it's getting better by a margin of 22%. The approval/disapproval margin for the Republican Party is -20%, compared to +9% for the Democratic Party. People think taxes will go up no matter who wins control of Congress. 57% are in favor of allowing either marriage or civil unions for gay couples. "
* watch keith. watch it! I'm getting closer to forgiving him for going on holidays in Dec04 when he owned the story of the decade.
* Lind:
"The third and final act in the national tragedy that is the Bush administration may soon play itself out. The Okhrana reports increasing indications of "something big" happening between the election and Christmas. That could be the long-planned attack on Iran.
[]
Many of the consequences of a war with Iran are easy to imagine. Oil would soar to at least $200 per barrel if we could get it. Gas shortages would bring back the gas lines of 1973 and 1979. Our European alliances would be stretched to the breaking point if not beyond it. Most people outside the Bushbubble can see all this coming.
What I fear no one forsees is a substantial danger that we could lose the army now deployed in Iraq. I have mentioned this in previous columns, but I want to go into it here in more detail because the scenario may soon go live."

' Democrats now have a staggering 19% lead'
like who gives a shit apart from US? didja see this yet? 'Diebold Inc. insisted that cable network HBO cancel a documentary that questions the integrity of its voting machines, calling the program inaccurate and unfair.
The program, "Hacking Democracy," is scheduled to debut Thursday, , five days before the 2006 U.S. midterm elections. The film claims that Diebold voting machines aren't tamper-proof and can be manipulated to change voting results...'
from here
I saw that tonight. Nothing you don't already know; still, very sobering. We are screwed (again), and if people don't lose their tempers this time, horror beyond imagination awaits.
