We say that Rumsfeld must be replaced

* maggieburns (thnx K):
"Grades publicly released for George W. Bush at Yale (1964-1968) apparently differ from grade records for Bush stored in his residential hall on campus. The published grades are better than the grades stored in earlier records."
that last sentence is redundant.

* emptywheel:
"There were a lot of things that went wrong with this war. The small number of troops. The dismissal of any non-believers in favor of the children of sycophants. The failure to plan for reconstruction. But a really really significant element to the Neocons' failure is their willingness to wage war for profit. Had Iraqis had a bigger share in the reconstruction, or had those selected to carry out reconstruction been subject to minimal oversight, we might have won a heart and mind over the years. But people like Richard Perle cared more about making a buck than ensuring the success of their little adventure. And for that, Perle deserves to be held up as an example of the worst instincts associated with this war."

* reviewjournal:
" Congress could avoid controversy involving billions of dollars in secret defense spending by shedding at least a little more light on classified, or "black," budgets, experts said Tuesday.

The secrecy leads frequently to questions, as it has this week when it was reported that a friend and campaign contributor to Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., landed classified contracts with help from the lawmaker.
[]
"It should not be permissible to receive lobbying funds from black budget recipients. That would single-handedly eliminate the questions in the Gibbons case," said Steven Aftergood, director of the Project on Government Secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists."

* for fun, rimone points to this little application which tells you how many people in the US share your name. Rimone, as we all know, is unique. For my name: "There are 0 people in the U.S. named Luke Ryland." (altho there is a fictional character, a mass murdering, cyber-stalker)

* go watch eminem's Mosh to get you fired up for the election. it still gives me chills.

* E&P:
"An editorial set to appear on Monday -- election eve -- in four leading newspapers for the military calls for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

The papers are the Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times and Marine Corps Times. They are published by the Military Times Media Group, a subsidiary of Gannett Co., Inc. President Bush said this week that he wanted Rumsfeld to serve out the next two years.

"We say that Rumsfeld must be replaced,” Alex Neill, the managing editor of the Army Times, told The Virginian-Pilot tonight in a telephone interview. “Given the state of affairs with Iraq and the military right now, we think it’s a good time for new leadership there.”
* glenn:
"One of the very few things that has worked in Iraq is this (Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction) office to uncover at least a tiny fraction of the fraud and theft perpetrated against this country by stealing corporations and their lobbyists and Congressional enablers. Thus, Republicans in Congress eliminated the office. And they did it deceitfully and in secret, by inserting it into a huge bill that was voted on with no time to detect it. And now none of them will admit responsibility for what they've done.

That is as good a snapshot as any of the incomparably destructive one-party Republican rule to which we have been subjected. This small story has virtually every element of how they function."

as i think you already know, rimone is really my middle name (nova's my first and it's all hard-coded into the design of my site)

i always preferred being called rimone but after that band got famous, i cringe whenever people go 'oh like the ramones?' i hate it. thank fuck last week, i met a dude at Lost Vagueness who, upon hearing my name and me going 'don't say it, please don't say it' immediately understood. :-)
