Merry, Merry, everybody.

The power came back on this morning (about 3 hours ago) after being out since Sunday night for the second time after the storm. After 5-1/2 more days of no power, the firewood almost gone, and icicles on my nose, I am more than ready to get warmed up without the necessity of four layers of clothing. Pray that this time they keep it going!!

And to echo Oldschool, thank you, Luke, indeed. If you hadn't volunteered already we would have had to invent you.

Now, off I go to wade through and catch up with over 250 emails . . .

XOXO ;-)

Things are quiet here. Santa came through on the fire engine night before last (that's smalltown America for you), and the people across the street have the usual light-up wireframe reindeer, but in general the holiday season seems more subdued than usual.

(And I think I would have gone nuts if I'd heard one more rendition of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" -- which seems to have been chosen as the official compromise theme song in the War on Christmas armistice talks.)

My hubby is happy because he just found a British chanteuse who does great Dylan cover versions and I promosed to order him a couple of albums. My #2 son out in Washington State is grumpy because he came through the 8-day power outage with a bad headcold and a fridge full of spoiled food. The rest of us...hanging in there and hoping for better things in the new year.

Best of holiday wishes to all of you.

Starroute, I hereby nominate you for best quote, Christmas 2006:

"(And I think I would have gone nuts if I'd heard one more rendition of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" - which seems to have been chosen as the official compromise theme song in the War on Christmas armistice talks.)" LOL!

I'm beginning to suspect your #2 son could be somewhere nearby in King County? I know exactly how he feels with the exception that so far, at least, I have avoided catching any kind of a cold.

Hi, #2 son!! (waving . . . ) :-)

Merry XMas all. I'm soooo glad I found you Luke and made friends with everyone here. It's my favorite place of every day.

I've been deep in wrapping paper, etc. but having fun with family and friends, tooo much food.

Made a big Italian dinner for a few friends, went to a couple of parties, had XMas Eve at my daughter's for the kiddy version of XMas, helps to keep the sparkles going.

Group hug again!!!xoxoxox

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Luke and everybody. This holiday season I was totally irresponsible and ate like a pig. It was very wonderful--I couldn't have asked for more, none of that holiday-punch-the-throttle bunk.

I started to write a seasonal post which derailed as I played with the template, and I lost stride with it. The template works beautifully since I upgraded to IE7. My computer is generic and runs Windows. I'm trying to restore an HP. The next step is to figure out what it takes to unbrand it, because otherwise it goes to the dump.

Proprietary computers are like catalytic converters, they are a scourge on the world. Treat that sacred wisdom as the religious relic it is and you will be truly free.

Mr. U, you are so right! :-) Way back when I was finally able to acquire my computer, the only thing I knew for sure was that I wanted to stay away from the brand-names if at all possible and ended up with a locally built machine that I've been able to maintain myself - and modify myself. When I can replace it with a faster version, I'm going the same way. Best decision I ever made in this techie world. . . . But, until this very minute, I had no idea it was a sacred wisdom religious principle. Imagine my surprise!! ;-)

finally we have some GSF relgio-consensus :-)

I hadn't fiddled around with proprietary computers, but my brother always preached their evils. Now I see what he was talking about. I can't lock up this HP to be secure. I can't do a clean installation. It's been instructed to get updates from HP, not Windows Update. It doesn't want to update resident spyware scan programs. It dislikes registry cleaners. It tries to route all network traffic through HP. What the hell?? I'm reminded of John Aravosis complaining about running Windows on a Sony computer. I told all of them and now I'm telling you, of course you hate Microsoft if you're trying to run a proprietary computer. If you were trying to run Sun or Linux or IBM, you'd hate them too on a proprietary computer. Buying a generic computer and the software costs a little more, but it saves your time and frustration, which in my opinion makes it cheaper. Tell your family and friends! And while I'm blubbering about that, let's talk about catalytic converters. I use a Filter Queen to microfilter the air in my home. It's 11-layer cellulose filter does that job nicely. I'm seeing a great increase lately in the amount of dirt it traps which originates in catalytic converters. It's some evil looking stuff, dark gray like cremation ashes. It used to be a fine, black particulate, which was bad enough, but this stuff is worse. Removing it from the air makes my sinuses work better.

I don't know why the manufacturers of proprietary computers and catalytic converters assume the human race has to accept the negative aspects of their products. I was never allowed such liberties on the job.
