half a million protesting the escalation of war

* amy:
"There were major protests in the United States, particularly in Washington D.C., estimates of tens of thousands to half a million protesting the escalation of war in Iraq, calling for the troops to come home."
half a mill? i didnt see that figure. i was amused that most of the coverage i saw simply said "tens of thousands" (Fox said "thousands")

* i have a new post over at KTM about a screening of sibel's new movie and panel discussion with Robert Parry, James Bamford and others.

* amy:
"Report: Turkey Considers Invading Northern Iraq
Al Jazeera is reporting Turkey's parliament recently went into secret session to debate sending troops to invade and occupy Kurdish-controlled areas of northern Iraq. Turkey's prime minister Recip Tayyip Erdogan recently said Turkey could not remain indifferent to the plight of the Turkomens and Arabs in Kirkuk." On Sunday, Kirkuk was hit with a pair of car bombings. At least 17 people died and 30 more were injured."

* amy:
"Bush Consolidates Control Over Gov't Agencies
President Bush has signed a directive that gives the White House much greater control over the rules and policy statements that the government develops to protect public health, safety, the environment, civil rights and privacy. The New York Times is reporting each agency must now have a regulatory policy office run by a political appointee, to supervise the development of rules and to make sure the agencies carry out the president's priorities. Consumer, labor and environmental groups denounced the directive saying it gave too much control to the White House and would hinder agencies' efforts to protect the public. Democratic Congressman Henry Waxman of California said the executive order allows the political staff at the White House to dictate decisions on health and safety issues, even if the government's own impartial experts disagree."

* sarah olson was on demnow discussing the new developments in the watada case.

* also on demnow, a great piece about trafficking of highly enriched uranium with the reporter who wrote the feature in the ChigTrib

So Tucker Carlson is on the panel. Should be interesting. :)

Actually, the panel discussion looks very promising.

The Iranian situation, the Libby trial, the escalation plan in Iraq and the pending Tenet book release are all factors that should make this documentary a very big deal.

no tucker!

the Plame stuff comes up in the end of the movie, so that's cool. and there's also a lot about AQ Khan - incl Iran.

we'd love to get cspan there to film the panel - does anyone know people at cspan?

I think there's an email addie on the C-Span website where anybody can send requests for coverage at events. You don't have to know anybody there, and they even respond. The sooner the better, of course. I'll go see if I can find a link . . . .
