Joe Wilson and the neocons

*
"Ambassador Joe Wilson spoke at Florida State University Monday night and pulled no punches, to put it lightly. Wilson pounded the shit out of the Neoconservatives, George W. Bush, Rumsfeld, Khalilzad, Condoleeza Rice, and the rest of the gang and, quite frankly, surprised me with the extent he allowed his anger and frustration to play out to a live audience. Nobody was spared.....not BushCo, not Ken Mehlman, not Ann Coulter, not David Dreier.....he took the entire Bush Cult movement to the woodshed.

Wilson basically took a baseball bat to the face of the entire Neocon GOP movement and named names up and down the list"

details here. go read - but he said this:
"So since they couldn't discredit me as being a womanizer, a druggie, or partisan (since I had handwritten notes from George's dad thanking me for my brave service in saving American lives in Baghdad), they decided to go after the last thing they had, my wife Valerie. "
i still don't get this. does he really think they went after plame to get back at him? why did libby desperately continue to track wilson for another year - there is something weird going on, and i dont get it. using his logic, once they outed her, they probably didn't have much leverage against him.

I'm with you, Lukery. If they just wanted to discredit him they could have smeared him for drugs or womanizing whether he was guilty or not; such tactics would have taken time, but god knows they've done it before. I thought the early explanation that outing Plame was a shot across the bow to other possible whistleblowers made more sense, but that motive seems to be de-emphasized that now. I don't get it, either. -- cs

good points CS - they should have just called him gay and let it go at that.

read somewhere that Plame's group had uncovered the neocon's operation to plant WMD in Iraq, via Turkey...

I recently read Losing bin Laden: How Bill Clinton's Failures Unleashed Global Terror by Richard Miniter. Yes, he is partisan. IMO, you have to read these books if you want to figure out what is really going on. He spends a lot of time on the Clinton administration's attempts to negotiate with Sudan regarding Bin Laden. At one point, Miniter writes that no US officials wanted to deal with Sudan, apparently due to a lack of trust. Then there is a quote by Joe Wilson and he says (paraphrasing) that he was the highest level US official willing to talk to the government of Sudan. That was the only reference to Wilson in the entire book. Of course it was surprising that his name came up at all. Strange.

I keep thinking about Edmond's suggestion that the Plame case is connected to other events. We've heard that Plame and BJ were linked to Saudi Aramco, then the story was that Plame was uncovering an attempt to plant WMD's in Iraq and the latest story was that she was tracking nuclear proliferation activity (Khan network?) in Iran. And there are the (more solid) connections to the Turkish Embassy.

Is this whole thing a wild goose chase? Or is this being orchestrated as a pretext to have a smooth transition of power...ie...Bush Co. did the dirty work but now it's time for some less divisive politicians to come in? Yeah, I know this is farfetched. But the story we are supposed to believe...ie...Plame was outed for revenge against Wilson...is farfetched too.
