* "Meanwhile, Republican officials this week confirmed that President George W Bush may not even spend a single night in New York. The plan being considered now is for Bush to come in to deliver his acceptance speech and then fly out for a midnight rally in Pennsylvania." http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/08/24/2111236
hmmm - i didnt notice in the iht version i read yesterday that there was a mention of a 'midnight rally' in PA - altho i may have gone straight back to the 'orig' nyt article without fully reading the iht article - so im not sure - in any case, the iht article says:
"...deliver his acceptance speech that night, then leave immediately *for a midnight rally* in Pennsylvania."
and the nyt article sez:
"...deliver his acceptance speech that night, then leave immediately for Pennsylvania."
it probably doesnt mean anything - but given that im suspicious or paranoid or ummm clever, then praps the devil is in the detail. bumiller of course writes for the nyt, not the iht, (both owned by nyt of course) and its unlikely that the iht would *add* "for a midnight rally" - therefore it seems that it was actually published in the iht first, and then changed in the nyt - so we've gotta ask why it was changed. (of course, when u tell lies, detail becomes really important - so why would they change it? - either theres a midnight rally or there isnt - its difficult to imagine that she totally contrived the midnight rally - it seems more likely (to me) that the cadmin is changing their story. (both the iht and the nyt stories carry a monday dateline - so we can presume(?) the the iht version came first, and was hence changed for the nyt version)
yesterday i suggested that if we dont hear much about this story, then we should be more concerned than otherwise - the only reference i could find to it today was in the abovementioned passing democracynow reference (and a couple of associated refs). the main reason ive been following the whole thing over the last coupla years is to save people i love (and those who they love) - actually i wanna save the world, but there are some short term goals that are more direct and achieveable - im getting increasingly nervous that the time might be nigh. im not freaking out yet about next week - but things are getting a little bit close to the redzone. as an ex-punter, if i could get 100/1 on there being an attack in nyc immediately after bush's speech, id be pretty tempted. if i had a family, i wouldnt be real comfortable if there was a 1% chance of them meeting their maker. praps they could go visit their grandparents or something and enjoy a long weekend instead. or praps there might be a reason i could conjure why id rather be in PA.
if i was karlrove, and i had the slightest faith in my boy, i'd want the media focus to be on how triffic the nomination speech was. i wouldnt dare let the story be overwhelmed by headlines such as '43 runs away from nyc like a coward' or even '43 does a triffic midnight stump speech in PA when he should be basking in gopcon bounce' or 'protesters run bush from groundzerocity' or woteva. i fear that there must be another reason why he wants to get the hell out of there - and given that 3/4 of u live in the same place he is running from, tomorrow might be a good time to mention to your bosses that u may have to take next friday off work.
we arent quite there yet - but we arent far from when the rubber hits the road. damn! whats that smell?
im getting serious.
