cover-up cover-up

* if the UN report on haririkiri is about to claim a massive cover-up from the lebanese and/or syrians as per robertfisk's article yesterday, why hasnt that been all over the teeve today? and theres hardly a mention of it in am papers either. odd huh. seriously. why the silence? is lebanon not a story now? are they holding off for blinky's 'announcement' (which fisk reported was gonna happen wed)? will blinky ignore the underground bomb element?

* ari2 didnt even bite when asked directly - u'd think he'd wanna take the opportunity to blame syria or something:
"Q Scott, on another matter, there was a report out of The Independent from a Beirut reporter, Robert Fisk, who said that the President was expected to announce on Wednesday that Syrian and perhaps Lebanese military intelligence officers were involved in Hariri's death. Is that true, and do you have any update on the investigation?
MR. McCLELLAN: I have no idea where that report came from. The United Nations is continuing their investigation. It's important that the assassination of the former Prime Minister, Mr. Hariri, be fully investigated. And we look forward to seeing what the results of the investigation are. But the United Nations is continuing in their investigation, and we have not seen any update on that and any final results of that investigation."

so lemme get this straight, fisk's piece was worth asking ari2 about it, but not worth anyone in america writing about it. curiouser. the afp's headline is "UN to reveal cover-up of Hariri killing". surely thats news, people. c'mon. perhaps we'll soon see an article headlined "AFP to reveal ammedia cover-up of UN report to reveal cover-up of Hariri killing".

* the best we get from reuters is the anodyne
" (Reuters) - A U.N. fact-finding team finished its probe into the killing of Lebanon's former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri on Tuesday and would report its findings to Secretary-General Kofi Annan soon"

* and heres this priceless AP bit at the bottom of a long article
"The U.N. team appointed to investigate Hariri's killing ended its mission Tuesday. Its chief, Peter Fitzgerald, has said he hoped to report to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan within four weeks."
this is at least 24 hours *after* fisk's article.

* praps theres something to my crater piece from yesterday...
