* notgannon: 'i dont even remember the date of my first WH appearance' - he's been taking this line since the beginning, and hasnt even bothered to check it up. it may have been valid once, not any more.

* heres the notgannon NPC video from cspan 90mins - (no direct link, the link is to 'recent programs' - the title is "Ana Marie Cox & Jeff Gannon Join National Press Club Panel on Bloggers & Journalism") its not particularly worth watching. heres a 20min version from c&l LINK

* there are some puzzling issues that ive covered before about notgannon that are raised again in the npc panel:
1) he is obviously intelligent and articulate - yet all we know about his background is that he was apparently a hooker and had some involvement with an auto-repair shop and was a physicaleducation teacher or something.
2) he looked very comfortable and composed in front of the cameras and a crowd, in fact, more comfortable than anyone else on the panel (which was inarguably about him, and potentially hostile). i'd speculate that its difficult to be like that without lots of experience or some serious training. he looked (nearly) equally composed when he was (in the early days) on blitzer and others (and maybe private dancing) - altho id venture that being in a public environment is different to a one-on-one. and id also venture that asking a one-way question to ari2 is quite different to being exposed to a skeptical panel in front of a skeptical audience.
3) theres the odd juxtaposition of him being (clever, articulate, outspoken, confident, opinionated) vs the fact that he rarely interjected himself into any of his 'articles'. as ron has amply documented, notgannon rarely did anything else other than a) steal peoples work, b) copy shitehouse press releases. fucking hell - he even brags that he passed on the PA 'unfiltered' (chuck d and laura and lizz must shudder!).

i dont know what to make of it...

2 things we know: a) notgannon is pretty good at what he is doing b) he is being allowed (promoted?) to do it. the npc had notgannon as guest-of-honor for one reason or other, and they were allowed to proceed despite the brou-ha-ha for one reason or other, and they didnt make any serious concessions to their original plan (despite adding a few peripheral bloggers) - its almost as though they were determined to give him a forum, *and* a safe one at that... why isnt the blighthouse demanding he be silenced (like ritter eg)

i dont get it...
