scowcroft

* in anticipation of scowcroft's upcoming article (monday), traitorgate guru emptywheel has some new (to me) information. scowcroft and wilson " grew to know each other better through their mutual involvement in the American-Turkish Council... Scowcroft was at least partially responsible for bringing Wilson to the attention of the Administration. Scowcroft brought a copy of Wilson's San Jose Mercury News column to show some people in the White House."

fancy that.

as you know, both scowcroft and the ATC are of significant interest to me because sibel edmonds specifically fingered the ATC, and she disputed the apparent exoneration of scowcroft (in VanityFair).

as you also know, i've never really bought into the story that the egadminstration outed plame to undermine wilson.

and ive never understood why wilson waited until 3 months after the invasion to go public (even though he made some earlier noises through the sjmn piece and through kristoff and some cnn appearances)

in fact, trying to make the facts fit the story that sibel was trying to paint, ive speculated that maybe 'victoria wilson' was outed in a explicit effort to out brewster jennings *because* brewster jennings was getting uncomfortably close to uncovering something or other - something that was supposed to be clandestine - arms dealing, or terrorism, or drug-trafficking or something else.

and now there's new news that scowcroft and wilson were old friends at the the atc, and that scowcroft was the driving force behind bringing wilson's claims to the whitehouse. boy oh boy.

odd no?

and now we see that scowcroft is getting ready to drop a pre-emptive strike just days before fitzmas after keeping his mouth shut for all these years...

fun, no?

i would love to know what is in those 8 redacted pages - and i've gotta imagine that its a lot more than 'administration outs wife of critic'

update: steve clemons has big chunks of the scowcroft article up on his site already.
steve says:
"I happen to know that Scowcroft did not know that the article was coming out this week and would have preferred his views to air some time after a week of potential indictments by Patrick Fitzgerald of White House heavyweights."
hmmmmm

(more of my rampant 2-degrees-of-separation speculation on this topic here and here and here, for example)
