* krugman via fdl: " It's interesting, though, that Scott McClellan has announced that the White House, contrary to earlier promises, won't provide any specific information about contacts between Mr. Abramoff and staff members.
So I have a question for my colleagues in the news media: Why isn't the decision by the White House to stonewall on the largest corruption scandal since Warren Harding considered major news?" (link)
He's so shrill.
* "A former Pentagon analyst (Larry Franklin) was sentenced Friday to more than 12 years in prison for giving classified information to an Israeli diplomat and members of a pro- Israel lobbying group.
U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III said he gave Lawrence A. Franklin a sentence on the low end of federal guidelines because it appeared Franklin was trying help the United States, not hurt it." (link)
yeah, right. morons. (h/t to mike, who thinks that this is a light sentence)
* somehow the google/spying justification has morphed into 'we need to protect kiddies from porn'. actually, the logic yesterday was that the govt 'needed' the data to ascertain whether COPA was legally justifiable. (and, btw, i never trusted google - i've long resisted the benefits of google's desktop and gmail)
* "Most people are more afraid of terrorists than of the NSA's intercepting international calls that they won't place anyway. And when facing a terrorist threat, most people want precisely a government of men, not laws: we're primates, after all, and we Americans more primate than most." (link)
* in the comments to my post yesterday about grossman & sibel, emptywheel pointed me to a fascinating trifecta of posts by booman from dec04 - primarily here, (also see #2 here and #3 here.)
* also, emptywheel is somewhat backing off her claim that Grossman may have been the source of the 1*2*6 leak to wapo. read the comments here for her take, and also my response.
