where the laci-peterson-folks

* via brandon at scott's place:
"If you support the death penalty, and only one single innocent person is killed, and killing an innocent person is murder, then you become murderers, and you also deserve to be killed. — Prof. Agnes Heller"
* democracynow:
"In Afghanistan, the US military has admitted it fired directly into a crowd of demonstrators during an anti-US protest held in Kabul Monday. The Pentagon initially claimed soldiers had only fired into the air. An Afghan police commander told the New York Times the shootings killed 4 people."
* democracynow:
"Meanwhile, President Bush’s AIDS policy was criticized Wednesday by his former AIDS policy director. Scott Everts told Reuters that the Bush administration has reached out to militant Islamic governments, including some it classifies as terrorist states, to try to ensure the 2006 declaration backs abstinence and fidelity as crucial tools against AIDS."
this is truly bizarre. do they really care that much about condoms feti? or are they trying to kill un-whities? they've probably got sophisticated models where they trade off deaths vs population increases and decided 'abstinence' will be more effective population control.

* I'm not sure if i mentioned this yesterday - but watching Condi on Lehrer about 'negotiating' with iran was horrifying - the USG obviously is only using it as a pretext to bomb iran - and yet they got all the 'right' headlines yesterday (making things even worse)

* btw - where are all the laci-peterson-folks screaming about the terrible reporting on the story where the amgrunts killed a pregnant woman in iraq?
"The U.S. military is investigating reports its soldiers killed two women, one of whom was pregnant, in Samarra"
isn't that 3 'people'?

Oh come on, we can trust the fearless decider to make the right choice. All Iraq, er, Iran has to do is prove they don't have an active WMD, I mean nuclear program verified by the UN, no, the IAEA, and we'll talk a nicey-nice to them.

What could possibly go wrong?

When a population hopes against hope (and reason) that the USG will do the right thing, and a compliant media plays along, some things are just a given. As for who's fallen for it, not everyone buys the party line. I don't think the Preznit's in for the easy ride he thinks he's going to get on this.

Of course, crap like this doesn't help. Wonder how much airplay it'll get outside of Faux News.

And then again, there's this and this.

Nice to see that some people are learning...
