Did Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald Lie?

* corn:
" The Wall Street Journal editorialists, though, seem to believe the book's Armitage revelation bolsters the case for a presidential pardon of Scooter Libby. I suggest they hold off making such an argument until they read the whole book."
* wsj OJ:
"All of this matters because it also casts doubt on the thoroughness and fairness of special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald's probe that began in December 2003. The prosecutor never did indict anyone for leaking Ms. Plame's name, though this was supposedly the act of "treason" that triggered the political clamor for a probe. Instead, he has indicted Mr. Libby for perjury and obstruction of justice.
[]
Strangely, Mr. Armitage never seems to have told Mr. Fitzgerald that he'd talked to Mr. Woodward. And Mr. Fitzgerald never seems to have asked to see Mr. Armitage's appointment calendar, which would have showed his meeting with Mr. Novak. It's all enough to make us wonder if Mr. Fitzgerald didn't buy into the liberal "conspiracy" theory of this case from the start and target the White House while giving Mr. Armitage a pass.
[]
Someday we hope Mr. Bush will tell us. Meantime, as he absorbs the partisan and ultimately trivial truth of this case, why shouldn't he pardon Mr. Libby and put the entire sorry saga to rest?"

* IBD:
"Did Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald Lie?
[]
Fitzgerald knew in the early days of his politicized witch hunt that no crime was committed. No one intentionally revealed the identity of a truly covert agent. Yet he made a reporter, Miller, spend nearly 90 days in jail for refusing to reveal her source.

Meanwhile, Fitzgerald refused to reveal to the public the true source. From top to bottom, this has been one of the most disgraceful abuses of prosecutorial power in this country's history. That it's taking place at a time of war only magnifies its sordidness.

We wouldn't be surprised if Fitzgerald ran for high elective office in the next few years — likely as a Democrat. The Plame case proves he can bend the truth with the proficiency of the slickest of pols."

Lovely article, and in a business publication, too, absolutely no perceivable partisan bias whatsoever[/snark]. Another seed planted, but this plant has all the fine aroma of stinkweed.

Dare ya ta post them pictures... :P

hey - i'm a 'business' guy - and i resent the implication.

and separately, i too wondered about the pig/ass/visuals. i could never have imagined...

Sorry, no implied link between bizfolk and rabid right-wingers intended. I was thinking that for a 'professional' publication strictly on business/investment/economics, a piece of total hackery was just a little outta place. (note: I don't place the WSJ in that category)

and separately, i too wondered about the pig/ass/visuals. i could never have imagined...

Visuals... yeah, audiovisuals, for the full experience, posted to YouTube for posterity (no pun intended)...

Rimone, methinks you're corrupting us... ;)

Finally, they start swiftboating him!

Is it weird that I find this a cause for celebration that he's making them sweat enough to try to smear him? Why did it take them so long?

Jim C, I think its because he has kept the investigation so quiet-bushies had sooo many other "fires to put out" they figured why bother with the silent Fitz until they had to-and now its getting down to the wire. Desperate indeed

don - from memory the IBD used to be an ok paper (on the news side) - not sure if it still is. (and the wsj still is a great paper, on the news side)

JC - lol - no, it's not weird that you are celebrating. i actually haven't figured out whether they are attacking him for reasons other than the armitage news.

frankly, as the simplistic 'official' story stands (so far) - the RW attacks on Fitz are probably 'justifiable.' when we look at the facts, we too wonder what Fitz has been up to all this time, and we presume that he's got something else - but without that presumption, it's not difficult to see how they are all horrified at what a waste of energy it has all been. the question then is whether they are being innocently ignorant, or if they are being nefarious.

There was never a better case of filling in the blanks than with this investigation. Personally, I'm convinced that, among other things, Fitzgerald is being threatened with decapitation, and this threat is acting as a hindrance.

uranus - that threat would be a hindrance.

let's hope he's tough

interesting convo in the latter comments, thank you--that's why i try to read everyone here, even when i have nothing to add--i learn a LOT.

Don: Rimone, methinks you're corrupting us.

sorry, dude, you're boring me. the first one to tell me that was my 6th grade teacher. *yawn*

kidding! in truth, i tend to do that a LOT. AFAIC, i need as much levity i can get to balance out the horrors i read all day/night.

anonymous, Uranus and Jiminy C: the fact they're fucking w/Fitz makes me happy cause as said above, it all stinks of their desperation.

lol. how did you respond to her/him?

i went 'fuck you' (having just picked up that little gem on the wall of the girls' bathroom and really having no idea of what it literally meant).

then i was sent home. i was happy.

re: i could never have imagined...

a-HEM! 'no one could've imagined that pigs would fly outta the asses of so many Americans when mr bush would tell us...' (fill in the blank).
